Career Advice Needed - Credit Agricole or Goldman Sachs

Hi guys,

I am a recent graduate with one-year experience in equity institutional sales. I am changing my career direction from S&T to risk/corporate finance. Currently, I have two offers, one is for credit risk associate at Credit Agricole, and the other one is client-onboarding at Goldman Sachs. Now I am weighing between these two. Many people may say that it is a no-brainer as I should go for GS. But it is more of an operational/compliance role with a lot of work related to reviewing AML/KYC documents. Whereas, CA-CIB credit risk is a solid risk management role. I am not sure about the salary for CA-CIB yet. But the two offers should be similar in compensation. Any advice?

Thanks a lot in advance.

You have 2 very different offers: 1 with Risk, which I'm not too sure of, and the other with Operations-alike. Like you mentioned, it will be very operational, and a lot of time will be spent reviewing documents and such. (I have friends who do just that). Ultimate question is what do you want to do? I feel the risk role will help you develop core skills and may be a better experience, but the name at GS can open more doors. If I were in your shoes, comp will play a big role in deciding between these 2 roles as well.

I would legitimately pick Credit Agricole... no offense, but this is a really shitty choice. On one hand, you have a French bank (which I always recommend never going to) On the other, you have one of the shittiest middle office roles imaginable. Client onboarding is beyond boring, and might get automated in the near future. Any chance you can hold out for more interviews?
