Cold Emails Ignored
So I sent out 25 cold emails yesterday to mostly associates at BBs at around 8-9am but I have only received one reply back.
Did I do something wrong? My emails were along the format of:
"Dear X,
I hope you are well.
I have recently graduated from ___ having ___ and I am interested in a career within investment banking. I am reaching out to ask if you would be able to speak with me to share your experiences as well as any advice you might have for me.
I understand you too studied at ___ and I would appreciate the opportunity to introduce myself as well as to learn more about your experiences in the ___ team with (BB name). Please let me know when would work best for you.
Regards,
__ "
Do bankers just take a while to reply or might I have just messed up?
And they were alumnis from the university i have just graduated from a few months ago
I've been ignoring all recruit emails because I cannot in good conscience reccomend this job.
If you hop on the phone with me I will tell you to switch majors to comp sci, finish med school prereqs and study for mcat, or recruit for consulting or entry level Corp dev or fin rotational programs. Don't feel like crushing a kids dreams so I ignore.
100% not trolling.
Then quit. Stop being a hypocrite
Keep throwing MS. This guy is clearly a hypocrite, shitting on a job telling others to avoid it yet he himself won’t quit. Take your own advice if it’s so insightful
its because you graduated. you're like two years late to the game man.
.
I get reached out to a lot and usually only reply to people who I think have a decent background already and solid shot to get in. If you already graduated, depending on what your current full time job is, it could be tough to get reaction. What are you doing post grad?
Im doing a masters next year so im technically in my penultimate year and will be applying for SA positions soon. Perhaps I should have mentioned that in the email.
Cant believe you didnt mention this...... dude seriously?? In utter shock.
If you are doing a masters this sounds like europe - people just don't care about networking especially if you go to a target. We know we will speak to you when we go to your campus and if we don't go to your campus sorry to be blunt but we don't look at candidates with your profile, as simple as that.
Also anecdotal experience but I’ve found that if you do reach out - do it on LinkedIn , most people don’t like getting unexpected emails in their(company email) inbox.
Learnt it the hard way but there is no real benefit of networking really here other than having names to drop on your CL or a referral at best.
Are you suggesting networking in the US is easier for non target ?
100% yes, it doesn’t carry much/any weight for entry level roles in UK
to put it simply, if you are at a non target in London we will not even look at your CV. Networking and being keen here does not exist, you make the cut or you don't as simple as that. Fully aware that it's not what a lot of people want to hear but it's the hard truth.
I do live in Europe and I did and will be going to a target. Thank you. Might as well stop the networking efforts and work on my résumé lol.
you'll be fine mate just apply early, do well in the stupid entry tests, have a perfect CV / CL and nail your interviews. I have 0 doubt that you will be getting interviews.
Hey man, thanks for your insight on this; interesting since I started uni in 2020 hence haven't had the chance to see how it is when bank representitives come to campus. Do you know if that's something your firm (and other firms) plan on doing this year? Thx
25 cold emails is not enough at all. you need to be sending at least 100
I have 3 contacts from each firm but I did not want to email more than one of them as it might come across as too pushy and keen if both of them speak about the email amongst themselves.
100 MD's and Vp's???? I don't find much value add in analysts personally, or am I wrong?
Only thing reaching out to analysts is realistically useful for is speaking to their experience when interviewing for their firm. Answering stuff like why this bank / deals done by this bank etc.
Not many analysts refer randoms that cold linkedin message and spoke to them for 15 mins
You did nothing wrong, it’s not even been 24 hours and you’re whining you did not get more email replies from complete strangers? Where’s your common sense radar man?
Do banks filter out emails from a gmail address? I have been emailing a few associates/VPs/MDs at banks and haven’t received any replies. Was wondering if they are even reaching the bankers LOL
Nah they dont. Your email would have gone through.
