Did PE/VC salaries go up?
Fellow Homo sapiens,
Have the London offices of PE / VC firms started to increase salaries for IB applicants following the jump in banking pay ? May want to move in the coming year, but just wary that I and my friends made £100-150k this year, so not keen to take a 50% pay cut - A2 avg salaries at my firm will likely be ~£130-150k this year with bonus
What kind of salaries could I ask if I were to move to late stage VC (let’s say from Series B onwards) and growth equity ? Appreciate if you could give the base salary and expected bonus structure.
many thanks!
Analyst 1 in IB - Gen, bummer your thread hasn't had a response yet. Sometimes bots are smarter than humans anyways:
More suggestions...
Fingers crossed that one of those helps you.
Jesus Christ these are low numbers. I know USD pay is higher and obvious currency effects, but still. Does shit cost less in the UK? I can’t imagine working that hard for what I made as a 1st year analyst. I’m in IB and will make more than 3x this in USD.
OP is presumably talking about analyst 2, not associate 2.
No analyst 2 in NYC is making £150k*3*1.4 = $630k. So i have no idea what your useless comment here adds.
And yes, stuff in London costs about ~30% less too, and people work less hard and get more holidays.
Yep Analyst 2 not Asso 2
MF growth equity (e.g. TA, Summit) pays 140+ all in. Exceptions are WP, H&F and General Atlantic (all around 200+)
VC less, some friends at late stage funds are on 100 / 110 all in
Got it, thanks. Not great for late stage VC, thought it would match GE.
In VC does it ramp up over time ? Do you generally have carry / leverage / co invest ?
Why is the comp higher at GA, do these guys work more than TA/Summit?
Growth equity definitely pays a lot more than early stage. Basically a function of AUM.
Just clarifying - the 130-150k as A2 was the first time you were getting a full year bonus out of university right? (Previous year being your stub).
Don’t know if PE is going up but have seen 1st yr MF associate as broadly £200k with some a little higher, some lower. Pretty sure there’s no 50% pay cut. Depending on timing or signing bonus with the PE firm - you do sometimes give up your bonus when making the jump though.
Got it.
I got ~ £120k all in this year (end of first year, hence why I assume next will be closer to 150k) and basically worried that some of the VC/early growth shops (meaning series B - E) would offer a salary below 100k all in, which would be quite a pay cut especially with Asso promotion.
If it’s a function of AuM, is it generally a good deal to go to some of the brand name shops (Index, Insight, Tiger Global, General Atlantic, WP) or do you get crushed there ? I know the above are not equal just want to get an idea of the pay / WLB trade off as I don’t want to pull 80hrs+ all my life.
I’m not so focused on MF btw as my friends there are getting absolutely crushed and I’m more into growth stories than LBOs, but if there are MFs that have good hours in tech I would be interested, do you know of any?
