"Do I have a chance posts" from a non-target student

Instead of wasting your time on freaking out over whether or not you have a chance you guys should take some fucking action. Specialize! Use the fact that you're coming from a non-target to your advantage. Obviously, a dank GPA is going to be the first step because (unless you've invented a cure for cancer) a resume with a shit GPA from a non-target is going straight into the trash. On top of the GPA, develop a specialization that plays into the direction and movement the global economy is taking. All of these banks have hundreds of cookie cutter kids coming from targets that have the exact same spiels. Coming from a non-target you are already different. PLAY UP ON THIS, SPECIALIZE IN SOMETHING WEIRD, KNOW A SHIT LOAD ABOUT IT, AND HAVE AN ELEVATOR PITCH AS TO WHY THIS SPECIALIZATION COULD POTENTIALLY HELP YOUR PERSPECTIVE EMPLOYER MAKE MONEY. This site should be a resource for answers to questions, not a place to get reassured that you're going to do well. THAT IS WHAT YOUR MOM IS FOR! It is a weak mentality to actively view your non-target background as a liability; you need to develop a narrative that shifts the non-target background from being an issue to an asset. Unless you are a demi-god, you have no absolute control over anything other than your input. So stop wasting your precious energy on getting reassurance from other junior ass kids that barely made it here and didn't have any concrete reasoning other than acing the technical interview as to why they made it where they did. In summary, if you're on here asking "do I have a chance" ... you probably don't. The best shooters don't need perfect positioning and a good pass to score, they make their shot. MAKE YOUR SHOT BOI!

As someone who comes from a non-target trying to get into IB, I agree. I do however see some level of merit in asking "do I have a chance?" What I mean by this is, you can gain some insight from people on this forum for if you are on the right track or how you'd compare with others based on past experiences. Overall though, I absolutely think you're correct in what you say. I've met many people at my school who are interested in IB but say "it's too hard" or "I don't have a chance" Can't make it if you don't try.
