ESSEC Msc Finance 2-year program in France VS. ESCP MiM
I have to choose between these 2 offers. (specifically, ESCP campuses would be in Paris and London)
Which one is the best for placement IB London? (Even considering that ESCP sponsors UK Visas).
Also, how tough is the ESSEC program? Especially under a quantitative perspective. (for example compared to Bsc Bocconi or Bocconi Msc finance)
I am Italian and I did my Bsc at Bocconi. I am native Italian and fluent in English. I did two internships: one in a small VC fund and another in a PE real estate fund ($12b aum).

How long is the ESCP MiM?
Both institutions offer very good placement at IBs in London (and I would say similar level of traction).
With your CV it sounds like you will have good opps
I'd say, for IB in London, ESCP is a notch better just in terms of number of alumni. Especially Italians. I've seen tonnes of Italians from escp mim in almost every singe BB and EB in ldn.
To just add to it. This is just what I observed. The best way to confirm and get a clear picture would be to go on LinkedIn search and filter the employees of the banks you want to work at, and then looking at how many of them are from Essec and how many of them are from escp.
Yeah but networking is not so useful to get into LDN IB
Generally speaking the French ranking is HEC > ESSEC > ESCP and I know you'll find more ESSEC alumni in London than people who went to ESCP.
This is so inaccurate.
HEC > ESSEC > ESCP is as accurate as it gets. I take it you're not French
HEC > ESSEC > ESCP indeed but at comparable degrees. The “royal degree” at all these business schools is the MiM.
I can also second what is mentioned above, I know that there are a very substantial amount of Italians from ESCP in banking in London. Between Bocconi and ESCP I think that he will be pretty well covered in terms of alumni network (but he could expand to new horizons through ESSEC) ;)
These 2 schools will offer you the same opps, just go to the one you have the most soft attraction to and based on the city you want to live in. People in London won’t have a clue ESSEC is (marginally) better than ESCP, they’ll just know both are good schools that deserve interviews. Just like you don’t have a clue about the differential between IE and ESADE, or Manheim and WHU
Would also consider whether you want to learn at a very quantitative program (per your post) at ESSEC or have more time to network and interview at ESCP.
I had the choice between both programs and went for the ESSEC one, as ESSEC > ESCP in France and for placements in Paris. Regarding London placements I'm not sure, but I guess it should be fairly even between both schools, though ESCP does have the advantage of having a campus there.
Regarding workload I just completed the first year of the ESSEC MiF, and so far its not too rough on the quant side compared to the bachelor in finance in Bocconi, though apparently the workload gets worse in year 2. ESCP's workload is more chilled though.
Also, pretty much the entire Bocconi Bachelor class goes to ESCP, so I guess ESSEC might have the advantage of broadening your network.
But overall, both programs are good and I dont think there is a massive difference between them. I'd say go for the one which attracts you the most
ESSEC got 0 placement in London - their students are not into banking. Pick ESCP
Well, would surprise me. As I studied at ESSEC, work at a US BB in London and have 4 people in my team who also graduated from ESSEC
Back office doesn't count
the guy has no fucking clue TBH... all guys from my cohort who are gonna summer in London got front office positions, mostly M&A and to a lesser extent S&T and ER/AM
Just curious, won't the new Brexit visa policy be barrier for getting jobs in London? If studying in Europe, how can we manage to secure visa sponsorships for London? Companies don't sponsor visa for internships and many who sponsor for full time role, need the applicant to have studied in the same country.
That's a good point I've highlighted in the question too.
Main concern about studying at ESSEC would be not having the Visa, while at ESCP you can spend a whole year in London (with more networking and applications thanks to the lighter programme as mentioned) and having the Visa.
- main question - Will the Visa be a true advantage or will institutions sponsors EU students anyway? Because on one hand the UK is not the US, where Europeans are not needed and thus Visa sponsorships are uncommon.
I believe only via the Student visa which escp helps with, one can apply for London. One has to already possess sponsorship for almost all organisations and they only help you convert it. Hence, it is a very good advantage over an european university which doesn't sponsor for solely London job hunting purpose. But then uni ranking and profile will also matter because escp imo is not a strong european target university by itself. Arguably it might be better than essec but its open for debate. Also I don't think escp would judge based on competency which students should they sponsor. It is open at all it's students by the looks of its website.
Bocconi MSc has the strongest London placement as compared to ESCP/ESSEC tbh. But if you want to work in Paris, ESSEC or ESCP does not really matter even though rankings say HEC/ESSEC/ESCP.
However, I'm be biased towards ESSEC as compared to ESCP.
