Farris Fund Management Internship

Farris Fund Management is offering intern positions and I was wondering if any of you have any information about this fund? The only reason I question it is because there is a price tag that comes along with it. Their reasoning is because as an intern you won't be expected to add any value to the fund but they will be spending time teaching you things you need to know about the industry. That being said I've never come across an internship that required you to pay so I'm just a bit cautious. Any advice will help.

This is crazy. Do not even consider paying some 25-year old hedge fund manager (who doesn't have any outside capital) for working. It should be the other way around. This definitely sounds like a scam. Read, invest, study investing on your own time if you can't get a real investing-related job.

This is what I was thinking but I wanted to get a few outside opinions. It's framed to be more of a learning experience than and a job but there are many other modeling courses on the internet for 5k

seriously? this guy needs to off himself. hes trying to make the world a better place... what better way to start this initiative than by scamming poor college kids for thousands of dollars to intern for his peanuts for capital "hedge fund". I hope this rat sees this.

lol, i actually know this guy. i grew up in south florida and knew a lot of kids from his high school. he's definitely not a dumb kid - but definitely a strange mofo. the kid decided to go Iraq as a high school student and it was huge fuss in the local media - also on the national level too. i heard that since he had such a unique background that he leveraged his "story" to get into a decent univ and obviously morgan stanley too. last time i heard of this guy was about a yr ago from a friend that he started a HF and got seeded money from his family member in the tune of like $50million. although i cant verify the amount, i'm pretty sure he's not a scammer.

i guess the real question is whether you would be cool with interning for someone who is in a learning stage as much as you are.

$50M? Wow. I wish I could get that from my family. If he raised it from family, would it have to be in his Form D? Because this says he hasn't raised any money from outside sources.

College graduates and students commit to internships for a couple of reasons: 1) to learn from experienced mentors, 2) to build a strong network, 3) to beef up their resumes, and 4) to make some pocket change. An ideal internship should not fall short in any of those categories. For unpaid internships in general, it better be at a prestigious firm, with phenomenal individuals mentoring you. If you are considering doing an internship at "Farris Fund Management", you really have to weigh the costs and benefits. In this instance, the costs would be the time and money you spend to learn from this individual. The only benefit I can think of is any knowledge you may potentially acquire. The costs clearly outweigh the benefits, as this internship will likely not do anything to boost your career. Future employers will not be impressed by an individual listing a no-name hedge fund in their "experience" section. On top of that, why pay to do an internship when many other funds, with more experienced managers, will pay you for your assistance.

I am also curious about this, since I was selected to be eligible for the program. Investment analytics and asset management truly interest me, specifically hedge funds, and am actively searching for the best way to get involved in order to acquire the appropriate training and advanced knowledge I need to become a strong candidate in such a competitive industry.

If anybody has further details, good or bad, about this specific internship opportunity, please share here or pm me.

Also, if anyone is looking for a hard-working recent college graduate to aid as an intern or junior-level employee, please get in contact with me. I would love to learn from an experienced profession who is established in the industry; I have no problem fetching coffee!

Very frustrating that I need 10 posts in order to PM.

MLCM, I would like to PM you to speak about the industry, and more about potential opportunities in the area. I will try to post several times quickly so I am able to do this.

Thanks, James
