not right....they make investments in companies that will allow GS to trade better, etc...they were the original investors in ICE, stuff like that...
but i know PIA encompasses a ton of things, including growth equity, vc, etc etc; are the two things the same? I have no idea; maybe someone else knows.
PSI is in the Securities Division and not within PIA
It's their prop trading desk
isn't this just GSPS?
Principal Strategies and Principal Strategic Investments are two different groups
LongShotTrader is right. They invest in companies that are specifically of strategic value to GS. For example, they invested in BlueSource to give GS access to carbon credits if/when that market gets established.
^^ Yeah - there's a TON of these desks but generally there's the
Principle Strategies Desk - prop desk GS Cap - self explanatory
and a bunch of other hedge funds with different mandates
From what I hear GS Principal Strategic Investments is much worse than GSPS. I know PSI is a very small group (around 5 people); not sure exactly what they do.
People just told you what they do .... they are like corporate strategy - they invest firm's capital but do it in a way that expands GS business
does this kid seriously have a zeratul icon from starcraft? dud ei played that when i was 9
I'm kinda confused from all the different GS buy side groups as well...on the website it says:
Private Equity
Goldman Sachs Private Equity Group GS Capital Partners GS Mezzanine Partners GS Loan Partners Infrastructure Investment Group Real Estate Principal Investment Area Technology Principal Investment Area Urban Investment Group
Seems like strategic investments group is not part of it.
Can anyone shed light on these groups? Which ones are the most active? which groups are the best or easiest to get in? how do you apply, or is it just purely from headhunters/internal referrals?
I could be wrong, but I believe those above groups are actual funds (as in, they have external investors like any other PE).
The strategic investments group is all internal capital, and as the name implies, purchases assets that are strategic to GS's expansion activities.
I'm also interested in this. Anyone have additional information to add since this is from 2009?
Dodd Frank bro
nah the group invests in Fintech companies that benefits goldman strategically. but that's all I know other than that it's part of securities and sits on the trading floor.
