How much do you guys pay for haircuts?
Curious on the going rate for haircuts, and more generally how much are you monkeys willing to spend to keep the top tight and looking clean. This is prompted because I just spend $50 (including tip) on my haircut and have never spent that much in my life, but the guy claimed he gave me a discount.
There's a nice place downtown on Park Pl. if I need to get a haircut at lunch where you can get out for $30, but those are NYC prices. Otherwise my local old Italian guys are normally under $20 including tip. I love those guys. On slow days they'll do the edge with hot foam and a straight razor.
I always travel back home to north jersey. I get a clean fade and all for $20. This is not meant to be in anyway shape or form offensive or hateful! But I really prefer African America barbers. They seem to really take their time with it and give you a “younger” look.
Black barbers are the best
I’m black and get cuts for $15, 20 with tip. Difference is I go once a week. Not sure if white/Asian ppl get cuts weekly
oh god that blm shit is feeding through to an annonymous forum
why dont you put He/Him in your username so we know what pronoun to use?
wtf is wrong. You have a problem with someone being black? Wtf does getting a haircut weekly have to do with BLM?
Jesus Christ it’s a goddamn haircut
$40 - $45 base + I've given $10 tips so usually $50+ but haircuts are a sticky service. If I had found a kick-ass barber for $20 / 30 / 40 I'd never leave.
10$ tips? wtf its me your barber
I feel like 15-20% tip is generally commonplace in service industries....?
Yeah you’re right. A shampoo/cut/shave deserves at least a $20 bill tip.
Honestly who tf cares
I get that this comment wasn’t helpful since this is a thread dedicated to this subject, but why are so many people interested in the dollar amount that one pays for someone to cut their hair? I could not think of a less interesting conversation topic and I pity anyone who spends their free time pondering this.
$0
number 4
I trim up the back and sides with a mirror. Always fre$$$h. Bling bling.
You're turning into MonacoMonkey dude...chill
$30-$40 for haircut and beard trim/line-up, before tip.
50$ plus tip, its expensive but worth it
Ditto $50+tip, a good haircut is worth it man. Aside from attracting the ladies (it makes a difference), you also just feel better and more confident about yourself with a quality haircut.
Granted, there are probably cheaper barbers with equal skill out there, I just haven't found them yet.
£38 but now they closed.. have to say it was worth every penny. Has anyone some good recommendations in central London?
Ozzie Rizzo
A bit pricey bro but thanks Was looking at Znips or Cutting Crew in Victoria or Tony & Guy Sloane Square.. ever tried them?
22 euros wash and cut
I had been going to a local place for many years and I like them but there was nothing special about the cut. Post COVID, I tried a new place which costs $25+ tip. The new place is much more modern, as it has hardwood floors throughout and has the nice gels and pomades on the shelves. My new guy gave me a much more stylish/youthful cut in that he buzzed the sides/back and kept the top on the long side. The haircut took about 1 hour partly because I had not had a real cut in 5 months and because my new guy was very meticulous. My new guy is on the young side, dresses stylishly and has quite a bit of hair himself. He gave me some tips on products to use, including a pomade which I have been using every day now. The pomade kind of gives the hair a semi wet look.
$70 cut and wash but that includes a free cleanup between visits where they'll do the sides and neckline. During normal times did a full cut every 6 weeks or so with the cleanup in-between.
$170
Dude, that is expensive...Does a topless female cut your hair?
hope it includes a massage
Typically $30, no more than $40.
Pre-Covid: $55 including tip (every 3 weeks) Post-Covid: $0
Bought a Wahl clippers back in March and despite reopening I've continued cutting my own hair. Incredibly easy to taper the sides/back as often as I need to and I typically trim the top 1/month. Once we're out of the zoom phase for client meetings, I'll probably go back to my barber.
My father told me at a young age that you have to find YOUR barber. I didn't heed the advice growing up and would roll the dice by walking into a chain (e.g. SportsClips, Floyd's 99) and praying they could pull off the "2 - 3 fade, textured on the top". The success rate was about 20%. I grew so bearish on the industry as a whole in college and would let my boy Tomas hit my shit with the Wahl he probably used to hit his pubic. His clipper "summer cuts" at least saved me $20 for alcohol / weed / food and looked moderately fresh with a fitted or snap on.
I tried black barber shops that "cut white boys" but always came out looking like Donte Divincenzo looking to pull up from deep. It felt cool getting dapped up and throwing in my 3 interjections as barbershop conversations weave through women, sports and the hustle, but I couldn't shake the feeling of knowing I looked like an AAU kid in meetings with senior executives.
It wasn't until I found MY barber, Roberto, that I realized what I was missing in my life. You can't see the guy in the morning because he's still drunk from the night before, but after he's had his Venti Starbucks and a few cigarettes, the dude is locked and does not miss. It's the perfect 2 - 3 fade with seamless transition to the top. When my hair-line was receding (has now settled between a Norwood 2 - 2.5), he was there with his scissors every step of the way to style, texture and cascade my hair perfectly. I pay his standard $30 and tip $10. After two years of great cuts, I don't even know if he could price me out of his services.
You really don't know how bad you've got it until you find good. Roberto is invaluable to me. I like all his shit on Instagram, throw him gift cards when the holidays are close and will occasionally bring him coffee to pay it forward to other dudes who are in the chair.
Learn from my mistakes - put the time into finding a good barber and build a relationship. When your hair starts to recede as a white dude, you cannot afford to keep fucking around.
I have no idea if my guy smokes but if he did, I would not be able to let him cut my hair. I grew up in a house filled with smoke and have developed an aversion to it. I can smell smoke from a long distance away.
$85 w/tip Mario Tricoci
I've been to Mario Tricocci as well years ago. But it was on $35.00 then. It was nice but the cuts never looked like it was a fresh haircut. The only thing that was memorable about the stylist use to place my head on her breast when she would cut the front of my hair when she was standing behind me.
But for $85.00 I hope your getting past second base.
Shop near subway station. $18 + $4 tip. Found a guy who takes time and does a decent job
Most I ever paid was $65 in Buckhead. Never went back. Great haircut but was not worth the $35 premium over another premium barber place. Currently challenging myself to grow it out til we return to the office.
I try to stay under $50 — I just don’t have enough hair anymore to make a great cut worth it.
Usually $40 after tip, but honestly I feel like I'm paying too much given I'm only truly satisfied with the cut 25% of the time, other 75% it's meh (maybe worth $20-25)
Had a lot of trouble finding 'the one' barber. How do you find the one who's really good and most importantly really good with customizing to your hair / balding situation? 25 and my hairlines has receded a decent bit, not too much but I know I'll be needing hair transplations in ~10yrs (not a problem monetarily, more so you have to be a good candidate)
I dont get anything complicated, go about 3 times a month and pay 25-30 including tip and I always slide him some extra money during the holidays. I never have to wait to sit in the chair and my guy is very flexible on timing. I've also had the same dude cut my hair for about 10 years now and have developed that relationship. He's cut my hair at 11pm-12am several times before when I worked late and needed to look clean the next day for whatever reason. To echo what was said above, a barber is def something you wanna take time to find a good one. One of those important relationships along with your drug dealer, mechanic etc.
Going 3 times per month, sounds complicated to me.
Wow u gays pay way too much. I pay $10 all in
We not talking about when a family member cuts your hair.
I pay 50 every 2-3 months depending on how I’m feeling for a rather talented female barber down the block from me, includes shampoo and massage. Get to have a drink while I’m waiting and the best part is that if I don’t feel like talking, we don’t talk. Period.
I tip her 10-15 each time, well worth it since she’s the best I’ve had in years, maybe the best ever. And, unlike some of you psychopaths, I don’t need my split ends trimmed every 5-7 business days.
$25-30 including tip. The longer my barber tapers the more I tip.
$80 but my guy is primo, and I have a high maintenance cut. If you don’t have good hair, don’t spend the $$$.
anyone know good black barbers/barbershops in chicago?
Marcus and I even go to the same barber, although I have a slightly better haircut.
$10 per hair strand. Best part is they offer me free gel in the end though so it’s worth it.
$80 including tip - however I go once every 6 months.
(I am living in Europe where it is acceptable to wear longer hair in the office)
Additionally it takes about 2hours to cut my hair and depending on the time I either get a cake and coffee or a gin&tonic for free
£58
usually get a beer and head massage/wash with that
shoreditch/hoxton, London
I tip 40% as I frequently like to get a touch-up before meetings, weddings, dates, etc., and my barber will make himself available if I give him 2-3 days notice. This works best if you can find a way to tip them without the shop getting a cut by using cash or sending money directly via Venmo.
I pay $50 for a haircut and $20 for a touch-up. He usually provides a whiskey or beer.
