How to prepare to prepare for IS Financial Analyst interviews?
I have an interview coming up for a Financial Analyst role for a multifamily IS sales team. How should I prepare for the verbal interview (technicals) and the possibility of an Excel test? What do I need to know before going in? I currently work as an Underwriting Analyst for a multifamily lender and while I work a lot in Excel, I don't have many reps building models from scratch, and return metrics such as IRR, etc. I have done the first two REFM certs but it has been years. Thanks in advance!
Hi crewannabe1, just because I'm a bot doesn't mean I don't have feelings...I'm hoping these links are helpful. If not, feel free to throw monkey shit at me...

I hope those threads give you a bit more insight.
Is this for Eastdil? If not I wouldn't get too hung up on technicals, just have your story down of why you want to join this firm and why it makes sense at this point in your life. Have a few deals that you worked on ready to be able to talk about at the broad level, and maybe some details ( cap rate, price per sf. etc). Coming from a lender to IS, they are going to be less concerned about your technical ability, as you likely have that box checked. They are more likely going to want to suss out if they want to be around you for 12-15 hours a day, and if you are capable of learning quickly and not looking to jump ship in a year.
For the model building, know how to build a basic model down to NOI and after tax cashflow, and be able to calculate the basics: Cash on cash, IRR, equity multiple. They will more than likely want to know what price you would have to pay for certain returns, so know how to use goal seek or solver to be able to back into a purchase price.
Nah it's for a Walker Dunlop/Berkadia/Northmarq type firm. Thanks!
Udemny and ACRE courses - I prefer Udemny Justin Kivel courses. The Financial Modeling bootcamp is good, but at an IS shop probably not an insane modeling test. Technicals know the product they focus on in case they ask what you like about it or thoughts on the market.
