I keep getting rejected from Goldman Sachs. Please help me.
This is very discouraging. Im a sophomore and so far I've had two interviews there. Both ended in rejections. First interview went okay. Second interview I thought I nailed it and had it locked in. I know Im only a sophomore but if they don't like me now, will they ever?
The fact that you are being interviewed as a sophomore is a very good sign
what were you interviewing for? generally goldman takes very few, if any, sophomore SA. I interviewed with them last summer, and they liked me, but said that they arent taking any more sophomores for the summer, and gave me their contact info and said to email them next fall if still interested and they would get me started in the process again.
unless of course you interviewed for their sophomore spring program, then its a different story.
either way, from what ive heard (and this may just be a rumor), there ARE other banks on wall street that you can work at--but dont quote me on that, GS might be the only possible place to work...
1st one was for SA Second was for Spring Program.
I just dont understand...
It's because you're not worthy, duh. If you were good enough, you'd have gotten the job.
How are you getting interviewed? I applied via OCR for SA and Spring Program and haven't heard anything.
What are your stats if I may ask?
Solid GPA. I applied on their website
There's got to be something more. Great networking maybe? I have a great GPA (3.8+) at a target school with lots of relevant extracurriculars and a prior internship and I haven't heard a peep. I applied via OCR and on the website.
Btw he's obviously trolling lol.
what makes me a troll?
SA is as a rule way tougher to get than FT. You don't have to SA at GS to get GS FT. Most guys I know SA's at MMs and got into GS and MS just fine.
You'll be fine.
I'd feel better if I wasnt even getting interviews. But the fact that they are interested enough to offer me an interview, but then they reject me makes me worried. And its happened twice.
For banking, I really don't think this is true. Most banks hiring most of their full time employees through their SA program...
Not true. Count the small # of SA slots vs FT slots, and observe that most banks recruit for SA at fewer campuses than for FT.
You would feel better if you weren't getting interviews?
Yes because I would assume because my GPA was too low, or I wasnt involved enough -- things I can easily change. But with a interview I feel like they dont like me as a person, and it isnt easy to change how you are...
Or its hyper competitive and you are already ahead of the game. There isnt always a definite reason for things like this. Just keep at it.
Do you come from target? Does target or non-target even matter anymore once they call you in for an interview?
Do you come from target? Does target or non-target even matter anymore once they call you in for an interview?
They probably could smell your lack of confidence from across the room.... Get a grip man, your a soph. in college, go buy an eighth and a fourty and kick back man... isn't it still xmas break for you?
Non-target and I think it matters when they compare you to the other people they are interviewing.
.
I'll give you the best advice I was given.
Do you like games? Play this like you are playing a game. Enjoy the process. You will do better, guaranteed. Now RELAX, find a friend, go hang out, do something fun.
Rejected from Goldman? (Originally Posted: 01/25/2013)
How do you know that you've been rejected from Goldman? I'm at a school where GS does OCR and most kids have found out, but I haven't heard anything. Does that mean I'm rejected? On goldman's site, status just says "application received".. is it supposed to change if you have been rejected?
You'll get an email from them pretty soon either way.
From my target/semi-target school experience, GS usually doesn't get back to you until the entire process is over in late spring if you've been rejected. But if you didn't hear from OCR, you likely haven't been selected to interview. Sorry, man. Keep hitting the pavement.
I still havn't heard back from Goldman for 2012 SA recruiting.
you have been rejected. stop comforting yourself
no news is (usually) bad news. wouldnt hold up because they havent gotten back to you, they might never get back to you. likely a ding - on to the next firm!
Asatar, is this for London? I heard back mid-December.
With GS, if you hear nothing it means you got rejected. They don't spend the time to reject the "weaker" applicants.
I'm curious about this too. Interviewed with GS OCR on 1/25 for SA NYC IBD. Haven't heard anything yet ( it's only been 4 days tho including a weekend).
Well, there goes that. For what it's worth, I'm still proud of getting the first round though..
Good luck to all! Keep going hard!
How to overcome Goldman Sachs REJECTION (Originally Posted: 03/15/2018)
My Background: * US Citizen based in San Francisco, Class of 2017, Currently working at a fintech company in San Francisco tech/customer support *BA degree in liberal arts with business minor at a one of the top 3 UC school (But considered a non-target school because we're more focused on science and engineering) *1 year internship in strategy consulting in Asia *Rejected from Goldman's Each Human Capital and Management (Had 5 rounds) Equity research (Had 1 round)
Potential Problems: * Don't have the best quantitative skills. (Market sizing/estimation questions are pretty hard for me) * Coming from a non-target school * Have already graduated from university. No longer in the network of like-minded people * Can't seem to find any boutique consulting firms in SF
Potential Opportunities that I haven't been fully utilizing *Surrounded by world-class engineers at work (The company has around 2,000 people. I am not sure how I can approach them to learn more about tech. ) *Shadow programs at work that allows me to see what other teams are working on
Issue: So I am currently working part time a fintech company in support. My contract ends 6 months from now and that means I'll have to look for a new job soon. My knowledge of tech is actually really limited. I probably sold the interviewer based on my personality. I'm a bit unsatisfied with my job right now because I've been wanting to do consulting full time right after I graduate but it looks like I just had to give it all up since it was an option. Sadly, the Big Four only recruits for Audit and Taxes at school. But not for consulting and/or advisory. I've probably failed 10 interviews by now and I've gotten to a point where I'm just starting to question my abilities and what I am capable of accomplishing. I think getting the interview isn't exactly the hard part. But being able to pass the interview seems to be the problem. Maybe I'm not articulating myself good enough???? My ultimate goal in life is to be working with extremely smart people, be compensated fairly, and know that the work that I'll do will have an impact on the business and the society at large. I know consulting can provide this for me. But, I want to know what are my other options. I'm also interested in tech. But it's too early to know what about tech I really enjoy. I'm not sure if the idea of programming really interest me I can't stand being on the computer for so long and not talk to anyone. (Issue of an extrovert) Perhaps a product manager is more suitable for me? I'm just pretty much lost in life now and I know I can utilizing my time more wisely. But I'm just scared of working so hard on something but in the end not know if I will ever use it or need it. (i.e. Being a master in excel, SQL or what not)
I'll need a few days to get over it but I must get focused in order to maintain.
To me (from the sound of it at least), it sounds like your trying to eat the whole elephant in one bite. You cant stack all of your potential problems together and expect to overcome them with one big solution. Some may be successful this way, but realistically most of my success came from tackling one problem at a time.
Those audit and tax opportunities i would never be too quick to pass. It may not be in the dept you want, but it gets you a company email address, the firm name on your linked in and experience.
.
SA is much much much harder than FT. It's almost as hard as landing MBB FT.
i was successful in my interviews as a senior even though i had been unsuccessful in the past. go out and get some competitive experience and come back to the table.
lol thats the problem. these are my chances to gain competitive experience...
This is simply not true. I came from a non-target and had no big names on my resume. I networked (as I am assuming you have) and got interviews w/ half of the BB's and wound up getting a SA position.
I am going to have to agree with the above respondents... smoke something bro and just chill...
Ok, this has to be bullshit. I'm at a target. I applied to GS through OCR a few days back. I have good ECs, a 3.7 GPA, good internships, etc. and haven't heard anything.
This guy's a troll. He's been here for like 1 day. Wake up people, seriously.
i thought it was the other way around... most of BBs entry level positions are taken from their SA class... like 90%ish from what I've heard from HR at on campus interviews I heard from the current seniors that FT positions are much harder to get than SAs because if they didn't take you as an SA why would they take you FT?! SA is a lot less of an investment for the firms compared to FT and there are more positions correct me if i'm wrong
How is everybody falling for this cr*p?
Why does everyone always call troll. So what, he may have lurked for ages and finally decided to create an account because he had a question he wanted to share.
Just because some random kid across the internet got GS interviews as a sophomore for whatever intangible it was that got him it does not mean everyone has to scream "troll!!" to soothe their wounded pride because they failed to get as far.
Yeah, I've heard stories of minorities from non-targets getting pretty far in the process, so it's not so surprising... For some reason, Morehead State is a hotbed for recruiting, and I've never even heard of the place.
Yeah I don't think the kid is trolling here. But if he has some personality tics, he needs to iron them out in college social life. IBD is one of the least empathetic places you will find in the corporate world.
Anyway, as far as SA vs FT: when I was in IBD, the # of SA slots was something like 1/3 the size of the FT cohort. These were the fat days, mind you.
@HoB Yeah. It's as if they realize targets are quite ethnically homogenous and love the standout URM from a non-target, it's heartwarming.
post your resume maybe someone can help.
I doubt his resume is the issue since he's been getting interviews. Nice attempt at checking out the competition though haha
