Institutional RE D&E Placement -> Telecom Infrastructure PE

I am currently an associate on an institutional capital markets / debt & equity placement team in NYC at one of the large CRE firms (CBRE/JLL/Newmark/Cushman). Strong team, big deal flow, big clients etc

I am interested in navigating an eventual move to the buyside at a PE firm that invests in the telecom and wireless infrastructure space (e.g. distributed antenna systems, fiber, small cell, data center, and cell towers).

Not interested in public REITs.Ideally it would be a firm that has capacity to execute both PropCo and OpCo investments –although I am most interested in PropCo or hard asset portfolio deals. I'd also prefer to be located in NYC or LA.

Has anyone been able to make this jump to this space?

What did your career progression look like?

What firms exist other than say Digital Bridge and IPI (Iron Point / Iconiq Capital JV)?

Just curious (learning about that space), why would you avoid public REITs (like Equinix or American Tower)?
