Interview experience w/ JPM Junior Analyst Program

So applications are up! You dont have to reveal actual interview questions. Just wanted to know how you're experience was for 2016 class. As for me, the interviewer seemed more like a gatekeeper from an admission staff. Its like I had the criteria for an interview, but since I came from a "non-traditional background" he started to gauge if I can even handle the work (the banker came from a non-target like myself).

Still deciding whether I should even apply to this again; i.e. the process is an inevitable nightmare. With nothing in common with the interviewer, it felt more like luck because of how arbitrary the process actually is...

M&A and Lev Fin peppered my bacon pretty good. Felt pretty embarrassed I didn't get an offer. The interview process varies for each person. Generally there is one or two phone screens, and then your on site interview. Three teams there and then your matching round where you do anywhere from 1-3 interviews (usually phone calls or a lunch although M&A added a short case study) depending on how unsure of you a team is. You can interview with as many teams who choose you during the matching round so if you are competitive you might have more.

I just checked and the application this year is NOT the same as what I filled out last year. It looks like you choose three choices upfront like a typical IBD general application.

Thanks for sharing FinanceBrah. At least you made it past the phone screens. I was supposed to have only one phone screen. Then another one that lasted 10 minutes or so. I heard from a close friend/classmate that the M&A case study was pretty brutal. Pretty much for everyone involved it was not a pleasant experience (hate to stress that).

Yikes! That really changes the dynamic of things. If you only get to pick three groups (kind of like MS apps) then does that mean they will screen out resumes depending on your selection like short-listing resumes? Whats your take on that?

About the case study, no comment but I was crushed I didn't get an offer because nearly everyone was genuinely nice and I thought I nailed everything.

I can't comment on the interview process for this year until my contacts get back to me but if I do the process again I will update everyone just like I did last year. I doubt I get a second shot though.

Last time we didn't pick teams until the final round so we will have to wait to find out how many seats there are but I am hearing conflicting numbers. Each team needs (needed?) to allocate space for a JA and last year the space allocated looks like it ran into administrative issues with a lack of room for headcount.

Anyone still in consideration for Lev Fin but not hear about last Friday's superday? I think last week's onsite interviews must have been local candidates only.

I haven't heard back for interviews myself, but the video isn't likely to challenging for its purpose. they're planning like 3-4 rounds after the video, so it might just be like a video cover letter

Nothing yet, being that it is new year / between holidays HR most likely isn't in full steam, I would assume in next 2 weeks all the invites will go out, and that is based on the call that they had in Dec, they said that by end of Jan first rounds of video interviews should be done, in Feb a phone call and superdays late Feb / Early March with final offers to be given at the end of March.

Anyone that got invited for the video round BUT hasn't submitted their video have this show up in their application login portal?

"We are pleased to invite you for a first round interview!

In the next few days, you will receive an e-mail with next steps for scheduling your interview. Best of luck as you continue through the recruitment process.

Kind Regards,

JPMorgan Chase Recruitment Team "

I'm wondering because I submitted my video on Dec 30th, but due to a technical difficulty, I couldn't answer my 4th question ( recorded only a few seconds out of the minute), and this message showed up on my application portal.

Have you submitted your video interview yet? Does it show on your application portal that you have been selected for first round interview?

what do you mean? you have the list of all candidates, or just the ones with invites? and what invitations have gone out already? I thought they've only been doing video interviews for right now??

to be honest, I dont believe FinanceBrah has seen any list/ and if he did its useless. Also, recruiting/HR wouldnt send an email to "Business" indicating whos doing Video interviews and even less a list of rejected candidates..... Business doesnt care and doesnt have time to look at lists....

na...sorry bro that never happens....HR would never do that...and for anyone who believes it : imagine an email " list of rejected candidates" / " list of candidates doing video interviews" Again Business doesnt have time for this BS...all they care abt is who they are interviewing etc.. and lets pretend this list existed and someone showed it to you : congrats you just landed a HR Job :)

They didn't send out a list, but they did accidentally CC everyone to the email blast. 400 people were on it. I'm assuming, like someone already mentioned, that it only covers the people who have yet to complete their video interview (myself included).

Also shout out to Daniel Lupo for replying to the whole email chain asking for a new video link. Autoding if I've ever seen one.

I would assume it would just be HR since there were 400 + people who had to complete the video interview before Jan 12th and were invited to interview sometime last week. I know that people had to complete interviews earlier as well, so there has to be way more than 400 people who did video interview. Way to many people for the groups to bother with.

When did you apply @Fin2016" ? I haven't received one either but I applied late December. Idk how people applied so rarely because back in October the application said it was closed for me. Then it opened back up in December? It says that the application is under review.

How am I supposed to be proactive, if it is up to HR to decide whether my application fits the requirements and lets me move on to the next step, which is the video interview?

I by no means consider myself entitled to anything, I'm just following the instructions given on the website upon completion of the application form.

Hi, it said " in a next few days, you will receive email to schedule the first round interview". How did you speak with HR? Did you shoot them an email? Thank you and good luck!

hr told me to check my folders for a link to the video interview.. but I still haven't found anything. The person that responded referred me to some other guy and that guy is not responding.. feeling kind of down atm.. do you guys think hr is having a laugh?

This isn't that complicated people.

"First Round Interview" referenced in your application portal is the video interview.

Anything further is yet to happen (as far as I am aware). For most people, if not all, I believe the pre-recorded interview was due within the last couple of days. My best guess would be that we hear back by the end of next week.

It literally says on the JPM application for the program: Current status is Selected for first round interview. That was the video interview....which was due the 11th of this month.

My application status says "application under review" and i did not recieved any email regarding video interview but i do got a system generated email with a referral code saying someone made a referral for me... I spoke to a ton of ppl in most groups..

Any chance I am moving forward without doing the video interviews... Or does it mean that I am dinged because i didnt recieved the video interview invite?

Referrals sometimes work well and other times they do not work. Really depends on the firm, who screen the resume, and the people who refer you. I have experience with getting interviews from referrals made by associates and nothing from referrals made by VPs.

Correct, i was told the same by HR - they also said invite for the second round will be sent out last week- this week ( which makes sense as its the last week of Jan) not sure though when in FEB.
