I'm offered to become a CFO of a tiny P/C insurance company and wondering whether I'm sure about philosophy of this business. Company market themselves as a professional service provider, wiki says it's a financial service, and I think it's an asset manager. Do you have a better definition? (I have no degree in finance, too).

Does it manage assets....?
You have an offer to become CFO of an insurance company, and you're not sure what business they're in or whether they manage any investments? Seems incredible, but if that's really the case, the easiest way to find out is to read their regulatory filings. If they don't file, they're not an insurance company.
Unless their assets are pretty sizeable (i.e. few billion $ plus) they likely outsource their asset management function. From my experience, with the smaller insurance companies the CFO and/or investment management team works with the outside manager on asset/liability mgmt, allocation, etc.
