not all are exactly boutiques but non BB/EB firms that are good in healthcare include:
Guggenheim Rothschild Jefferies Leerink Cowen Piper Jaffray
This. Also Ziegler, Avondale, HC Wainwright.
Would also include Greenhill, especially in international deals, but they are an EB.
Guggenheim is an EB, Rothschild and Jefferies are also top shops
Cain Brothers is by far the best investment bank that focuses exclusively on healthcare (they do not do anything else --> all HC bankers) --> great culture apparently, according to a friend
you drank way too much koolaid
Cain brothers had the most incompetent HR I've ever met. They planned OCR for my school but then forgot to send out the invites so only like 5 people showed up. Then when they sent out interview invites, they forgot to send out interview links to everyone. Then they just ghosted people.
MTS Health Partners
They have more of a merchant banking model i.e. through the name Wind Rose Health Investors.
You bumped a two year old thread to make that statement? So what if it's a merchant bank? MTS still gets decent deal flow.
Got a first round with them. Are there any threads?
Bourne Partners in CLT
Does anyone have any info on Ziegler? From the looking at their site, they're also purely focused on HC.
I was recently contacted by a HH for a position in their Chicago office? any idea about their dealflow, size of deals, exit opps, etc?
Lots of joint pubco underwriting deals, but better in public fixed income. M&A practice is high volume, but they have a ton of head count. Average deal size is probably sub $50mm on M&A, but can get some decent ones occasionally. Strongest sub-sector is by far senior living.
Exit opps are probably to other boutiques, maybe MM HC groups and into corp dev or operations at clients or HC companies. Haven't come across anyone in PE from there.
What senior living deals have you seen them on? It looks like they just sell individual senior living facilities similar to a real estate investment sales team. Is that correct?
ignore
Triple Tree, Brentwood, Zeigler
Saw Ziegler above: do some solid deals. Work with some guys out of Ziegler and they crush
would you mind if I PM you?
The first two are quite a bit ahead of Ziegler.
I've commonly heard tripletree and leerlink referenced among HC boutiques. Bullet-Tooth, did you happen to notice the question i posted earlier before later removing?
Ferghana Partners
Coker Capital Advisors, Covington Associates
Also bulge bracket - is there a ranking for bulge bracket banks in healthcare? Also, what are your most interested in about healthcare?
MTS Health Partners is elite: https://www.mtspartners.com/investment-banking/transaction-experience/
Was this supposed to be funny?
No, look at 2019...5+ deals over $1bn. I would call that elite for an industry-focused boutique unlike the list above of Ziegler, Cain Brothers, Leerink lol. Also exclusively advised for all these deals.
2019 was a banner year so we'll see how they stack up going into 2021. But yes, from what I've seen they're operating in a higher tier than Ziegler / Cain Brothers / Torreya (not sure about SVBL since they've started poaching people like crazy).
Look at two years ago? How about check the league tables now across the board. No one would rather be at MTS over Cain or Leerink.
Disclosure: I’m at a coverage group at a BB. Good luck with your MTS internship.
I work in BD for a healthcare company now and have met with all these banks as part of my job. I'm referring to M&A volume, not the commoditized follow-ons/debt deals you're probably working on now haha.
Get back to working on that debt deal bro, what a loser.
You're the one trying to weasel into banking, given your recent post history. Would never shit on bizz dev at healthcare companies, but good luck on recruiting into banking. Keep sending those cold emails bro! Maybe send this thread to MTS, and they'll give you an internship hahaha
Also yeah please show those M&A league tables bro. I'm sure they'll shed some light on this discussion
You're a clown.
Guys, all HC boutiques have their strengths. Find what's best for you if you go this route. No need to be defensive about certain firms. All of them have different focuses.
Bump - any updates? Looking to join a healthcare focused team.
