Dear Ms. *Redacted*,
After thinking it over I would like to disregard my application I sent this past week out for recruitment for Wells Fargo securities. Looking at my resume again I realize I can do way way better than Wells Fargo and I don't want to settle for less. Please don't take it personally. Thanks for your time. I hope you have a great Thanksgiving holiday.
Cordially,

This has already rounded WF, JP, DB, UBS, and others. Good job kid.
what a douchecanoe
How is WF beneath him compared to his past jobs...?
He worked at PRESTIGE ECONOMICS, come on.
WF just wasn't "Prestigious" enough for him (pun intended).
spot blown. gg
.
"Prestige Economics, LLC is the most accurate commodity and financial market research and consulting firm in the world."
Strong opener.
According to their website, they are great at estimating, among other things, tin AND soybean prices. The most interesting industries, right there.
I'm interning next semester
I wonder why it is that all careers in business attract such massive asshats. I mean, I've never seen a dentist say something like that.
You apparently have met like no surgeons in your life.
I have not, though you saying that certainly makes me want to avoid them in a business sense.
I have heard dentist say they want to kill themselves though.
I do not understand why a job at WF is not good enough to even apply. This email is so disrespectful.
Dammit, I just came here to post this!
I love the WF's recruiter's response when she forwarded internally:
"FYI… we will not be moving forward with this candidate. I have also notified the career center. Thank you!"
Also, the email chain has a screenshot of the kid's LinkedIn. Total goober. Good stuff.
Edit: Just saw the guy made it to DealBreaker too. The more things change the more things stay the same. These kids never learn.
retarded comment. redacted by me.
As hilarious as I find these e-mails; I think there are some serious issues with these things getting passed around.
Everyone done something socially unaware and sophomoric in their day. Yes, its stupid and devoid of tact, but the eventual consequences of these things far outweigh the initial transgression. Its a relatively stupid mistake; yet these kids become unemployable on Wall Street. They are in some cases literally ruining these kids lives; and for what? So they can point and laugh at some poor pathetic kid?
Alex Vynar is an extreme example. When someone dies prematurely, its pretty difficult to pinpoint any one factor and say this one thing was the cause and had it not been for this event everything would have been wonderful. But its pretty obvious that his viral video ended up unraveling his life. There's just no reason to forward these things around other than to point and laugh at someone else's misfortune and to propagate mass mockery and bullying.
As dumb as these kids are, and amusing as their faux pas are, I genuinely feel sorry for them when their e-mails are passed around Wall Street like this.
If I was one of these kids I would sue the fucking pants off the investment bank that FWD'ed my email and resume around. There's a clear paper trail of where it came from, and I'm fairly certain they would settle considering how embarrassing the discovery process would become with all these "hot shot" bankers shitting on some poor bastard 19 year old liberal arts student. It would be a PR nightmare.
this
Agreed. People dont realize that in exchange for a few minutes of entertainment, they may literally be ruining someones life.
If they could simply delete the email and move on with their lives, the world would be a better place.
I dont care how corny that sounds either.
I think the person that sent this around is more of a clown than the person who actually wrote it.
I do feel bad for some of these kids, and I'll be the first to admit I'm guilty of a bit of schadenfreude when these things get passed around.
This kid, I simply do not feel bad for. Read his Google+ posts. Link is in the comments of the dealbreaker article. He is an utter douche.
Was having this same discussion w/ a few friends and I think we all realized that it was fucked up. Personally I wouldn't have forwarded this around. But the kid did put that shit in writing. So this problem goes both ways. No one's right here, but still entertaining.
I forwarded it.
His initial email was just idiotic. Not, "I didn't spellcheck my networking email to an alum" idiotic. Like, "Why on Earth would you send that shit? Were you drunk? Retarded? Both?" idiotic. Beyond the pale. Jeffrey Chiang-level bad.
His social networking posts (YouTube, G+) were really meanspirited. Homophobic, misogynistic, racist, basically everything that you'd expect from the shitheads in your high school classes. After reading a few of them, it was clear to me that I wouldn't want to spend five minutes with the kid, let alone 10 weeks.
I can't stand people who are rude to HR or admins. If you're a dick to people you consider your "inferiors" (and they aren't), you're just a shitty human being and deserve all the bad karma in the world that comes your way.
To reiterate: poorly punctuated networking emails are one thing. I'm a decent guy, I get it. You're 19 and misspellings don't matter when you're emailing a friend. Or you're a little over-eager and send me a few too many follow-up emails when I didn't respond to your first one. Whatever. I'm not trying to ruin college kids' lives. That stuff gets a pass.
But if you're dumb enough (and arrogant enough) to send a nasty email to WFS's HR department telling them you're too good for their firm, I would never, ever want you as my summer intern. I just can't trust trust you in a corporate setting. Like, who does that? It makes no sense. You might say something dumb to my MDs. Clients. Then when I Google you and see "faggot" thrown around all over your YouTube account, and then I get forwarded something from your school telling me that you blatantly lied about extracurrics on your resume...like, I start to get a picture of who you are, and I don't like that person one bit.
So, yeah, gonna have to disagree with some people here. I didn't feel even the slightest twinge of guilt for passing his name along to my buddies at BBs.
totally agree!
.
I resent people who act like entitled assholes...
The kid sounds like a pathological liar and elitist prick...if it didn't happen now, would have happened at some point.
When people are so far out of normal social bounds like this, the reality is that people are not going to show sympathy (besides redacting the name)...
I also don't agree it's a widespread culture -- it's how you are raised. The kid hasn't even graduated college and can't even show respect to professionals that have accomplished more than he probably ever will -- in my eyes, he is 10x worse than a Vayner or Chiang (who were just liars and overly "ambitious")...
I agree with everything you say. Sure the kid's an idiot, but its not right to completely destroy his chances and career in Wall Street within minutes.
Keeps getting better! Actual text from the dude to another student.
Note: Was about to upload non-anonymous version, but decided to give the kid at least a little slack.
Got this as well. Unbelievable, probably worse than the original email
he would have been a great managing analyst...
Kidz a poor, haz Tmobile.
Ok, I seriously want to know the name. It's been redacted everywheeeerreeeee!!!!!!!!!!!
Can we all step back and realize that 50 times a day people shit on different banks and different groups within banks? While this is different from actually emailing someone and saying it to their face I wouldn't be surprised if the kid was a poster on this site.
Didnt Chiang also come from UT Austin?

LOL hahahahah
Friend that knows him said that he is claiming his account got hacked/someone did it to him out of revenge. Sucks if that's true
^ i smell bs
^it's not letting me quote, but that's called damage control. The kid made a major mistake and is trying to save face. All the other social media etc. was magically hacked at the same time I'm assuming?
No doubt that he's a total douchecanoe given his comments on social media sites, but it is not unlikely that someone sent the Wells email off his account. I find it hard to believe that anyone is stupid enough to send anything like that. And his other posts are rude but not nearly as career destroying by any means.
LOL jesus I know of this kid always known for talking too much trash and being cocky (had that BB or GTFO mentality). Didn't know he would go this far!
If this kid is losing, I don't want to win.
Keep fighting the good fight.
I bet GS, MS, and JPM are knocking down doors for this kid.
Elitist/douchebag personalities are a dime a dozen on wall street but this is not why he is getting blackballed. He's getting blackballed because he clearly demonstrated that he has no filter, judgment, restraint or tact - skills key in banking. Would you ever want this kid in front of a client?
Also, this kids life is not ruined, unless you define not being able to work on wall street as ruined. Either way he has demonstrated that he would never be appropriate for a client-facing role, so its probably better this happens now than as a first year analyst.
By having his god-awful, douchy emailed forwarded to all of wall street at least it serves as a wake up call for this guy to get his shit together. That's worth its weight in gold.
Any chance this guy's email/social media accounts got hacked by someone who didn't like him? I can't even imagine anyone stupid enough to do this.. I have to think there's a definite possibility that someone messed with him
sure the guy could just be an elitest douche...but did anyone stop to think that a ridiculous/personally destructive email sent at 5am might not be the work of a sober/sane individual?
i find it very difficult to believe that elitiism and a sense of entitlement are what drove a presumably intelligent kid at a pretty good school to send an email like this. i find it much easier to believe that a lot of alcohol or a mental breakdown were the drivers.
Redacted, please stop making new WSO accounts and pretending to be a third party to swing the discussion here. We know you weren't "hacked," and you're posting as a Chimp, so it's pretty obvious when you've made a dummy account. If you'd like to contribute, just explain what happened.
Double bottom line -
What's stopping this kid from getting drunk and doing the same thing on the job? If he is this stressed out/prone to destructive behavior in college (which, for any non-STEM major is a breeze compared to the real world) how the heck is he going to handle his first string of back-to-back 100 hour weeks? How do I know after losing a mandate on a big IPO he's not going to get wasted and drunk email the CFO from his blackberry saying "Bank XX doesn't need your business anyway, we can do much better!"?
if that's what happened, i'm not saying it's acceptable behavior and that BBs should be lining up to hire him. i'm saying it would be an entirely different conclusion than the one many people seem to be drawing (arrogant entitled asshole deliberately insulting WF to their face).
i agree with you but at the same time we can stretch that logic a little further and disqualify anyone who has ever drunk texted an ex-gf something they regretted the next morning. after all that poor judgment could resurface in the office.
not trying to defend this kid. he may simply be an asshole who did it while sober and with conviction. i'm just saying there's a half-decent chance that's not what happened.
Man, this just seems like a cruel prank. I refuse to believe that a student can be so haughty and foolish...
Haha all the "people" saying he was probably hacked are from new accounts
In this thread, I've heard the following: Douche Douchecanoe Doucherhino (favorite)
My vocab just expanded tenfold :)
Haha thats cool.
I find this email incredibly offensive. As someone who would take literally every opportunity in investment banking, I am definitely shocked that someone would say an opportunity is beneath him. Whether or not it's a "cruel" prank, you can't be stupid enough to either say something like this or have your accounts open for someone to post something like this. Besides, people must hate you to actually post something so terrible under your name.
You'll find that kind of mentality anywhere and everywhere - when someone thinks something is beneath them, and it's all relative. Someone who can land all the top jobs will think a second tier BB is 'beneath' them. Then someone who can get into something banking related will think a BO or MO role is beneath them, and so on. Everyone has thoughts like that, whether concerning a firm, school, etc. But to voice it to the other party you're offending just speaks volumes about someone's idiocy, lack of common sense and tact. Seriously, who the hell does that?
Seems like there's a trail of stupidity on a number of his related accounts, so I highly doubt he's been hacked. Just made a moron move who's doing damage control and came up with a halfway logical explanation, because in most normal situations, people aren't stupid or insensitive enough to do something like this.
I also agree with whoever said they were confused about how this guy can think he's too good for WF. His linkedin/resume thus far isn't all that memorable.
Oh, I realize this mentality is everywhere, but I'm just so surprised that he has the gall to actually vocalize this.
On a side note: As a college student, I'm surprised at how fast word spreads among Wall Street circles.
I think along with what Marcus has said, maybe this time the "mob" got the right guy. Seems in this case there are multiple sources of evidence which support the conclusion that this guy is an ass with no integrity. But that doesn't mean that the mob mentality is right, it just means in this case it appears the guy it damaged actually deserved it. It doesn't mean that next time the mob won't be wrong and end up attacking an innocent person who just sent one foolish email or had one outburst in public that unfortunately got caught on video.
Sounds like Redacted was either dared by his friends to do this or it's all bullshit. Imo there's nobody stupid enough to do something like this.
If you are stupid enough to do this on a dare you're dumber than if you just did this.
You gotta admit the kid has balls though, he might be a total douche but at least he has balls. Not that that will ever help him in this situation but you gotta tip your hat to the kid ever so slightly.
This is actually unreal with all these dummy accounts defending him, turn the social retard downnnn my man.
@heister
You'd be surprised what kids can do to look good in front of their friends. Especially a douchecanoe like this one, which is probably all he cares about.
I mean usually I just feel bad for the person being targeted, but this guy seems like a legit douchenozzle.
Looks like hes in deep shit
Whats this kids name? I want to put a name to this douchebag a face as well.
You'd have to be especially lazy or retarded to not have figured it out by now, even if you didn't get the original chain, as the necessary information is already in this thread.
I mean, I did a quick search and found his - email, phone number, address, and picture.
WOW! He is in some Deep shit.....
The kid, no matter how much of an arrogant prick may be, has every right to sue the bank. Job applications are supposed to remain confidential. With all due respect, arguments such as "imagine if he works as an FT Analyst/Associate and says something bad to a client" are utter horseshit, in order to get there you need to pass interviews, SA, work long hours before you get put in front of a client, by that time colleagues/bosses should have a pretty good idea of what you are.
.
Not when you email the hr rep regarding your application. WF is on the hook here and I would be shocked if the hr person still has a job.
Today I got half dozens email forwards, all originated from Wells Fargo-Deep conversation, from colleagues and friends.
Is it really funny to spam out thousands of email to every employee at every bank in the country?
Abusing applicant personal information, analysts at Wells Fargo have any ethic at all?
Looks like Wells Fargo is a place full of jerks, indeed not worth applying.
Stupid move by the kid but I sympathize with him on one thing. If I ended up at Wells Fargo, I would consider myself a failure.
All these Monkeys and Chimps jumping to our friend's defense..
You're going full retard, Redacted. Never, ever go full retard.
this kid: does his first name starts with D, and last name ends with T?
...
LESSON OF THE DAY:
1) Send out a ridiculous email/application that is worthy of forwarding 2) Wait until forwarded (maybe attempt to drive more forwarding action) 3) Sue 4) Profit 5) Start your own hedge fund = buy side>sell side = PRESTIGE
2.5) Make fake accounts on WSO to defend youself
.
as a senior who's busting ass to get a job in banking, I'm angry that this kid just pissed away an opportunity.
Funny in that I know a few of the guys at Wells who originally got the email from their HR. As for this kid, to paraphrase the late, great Biggie: Don't be mad (and post under fake accounts), UPS is hiring...
do any of you ppl actually work in finance? worse things are said about Wells Fargo everyday....
It's one thing to joke with your friends about the weird looking girl across the bar and it's a whole different thing to walk up to her and tell her to her face. AND THEN a whole different thing when you are a pimply-faced Virgin and you tell this to her face.
great analogy
Do you even finance bro?
.
Update: word on the street he has received only one interview - GS Global Investment Research
haha maybe someone at GS emphasized with some of his sentiments.
Empathized* it's okay, it's late
What I find interesting is that the writer of the email not only didn't think through his original application but also his redaction of the email. If you decide after you apply or even after you interview that you aren't interested you don't need to email HR and let them know. You could just see if they even contact you first, because they might not. When and if they do contact you to continue the process then you let them know you are no longer interested.
.
Man threads like this make me think WSO is the home page of every single high school/ college freshmen Wall Street bankster baller douchebag.
It is
