Any good suggestions on books that would be a good read for energy/oil and gas? There was a thread about this a couple months ago but every time I try to open it it gives me a "page not found".

Energy Trading & Investing by Edwards
It gives you an overview of all of the markets. It takes each market one by one and talks about the physical flow and then delves into the financial markets.
Oil 101 by Morgan Downey is a pretty comprehensive overview of the Oil market, but this goes pretty in-depth into Oil, even discusses the chemistry. I guess depends on what you are looking for as far as a read.
fisher investments on energy does a good job breaking down the industry's drivers and what makes the market bullish or bearish with respect to oil prices.

energy trading and Investing by Edwards has a great deal of information on power although I don't know if it is better than Shively.

Digging old posts. Read energy trading and investing as well as electricity markets: pricing, structures and economics by Chris Harris.
Any other suggestions ? I am quite familiar with electrical markets now so something technical would be great !

i've read some of trading natural gas by sturm and understanding today's electricity business was a textbook for a power trading class i had.
sturm was pretty cool, just didn't have time to finish it before some damn grad student had it called back...
understanding today's electricity business is just plain cool though. bought a copy of it for myself and its just an interesting read by itself. i picked up a book the other day, energy markets: price risk management and trading by tom james that doesn't seem too bad, although it is kind of broad and reads more like a history on trading and risk mgmt in the energy space, rather than a practical, desk manual type of guide.
i've also heard that VBA for modelers is good? can anyone second that?

I was wondering if anyone has any good recs on a book involving M&A in the energy industry. I know this is a trading group, but figured some of you might have a little background. I currently am looking at Bruner's "Applied Mergers & Acquisitions". It's a decent book for a generalist, but I've never found a good text on the subject that is energy specific. Thanks. etr

Energy and Power Risk Management: New Developments in Modeling, Pricing and Hedging by Alexander Eydeland. It's the reference I always turn to for gas and power quant analytics.

Hi, I am a senior finance major at a large public school. Last summer I interned on the trade floor for a large utility in Florida. I am interested in becoming a natural gas/oil/distillates/power trader and would like to do some reading about what it takes to work as a real-time or term trader.
Are there any must reads or book recommendations for going into this field?

Right section. "Oil 101" by Morgan Downey is a must read, it goes over the background of pretty much everything you need to know about oil/distillates.

During my summer internship I was constantly told to read this book "Trading Natural Gas" by Fletcher Sturm and I never got around to reading it. Because of an upcoming interview I got my butt moving and started reading it yesterday and OH MY it's such a good book I finished it in one day. It is a ridiculously well written book that makes things so simple..
