  1. Moving to other comm. is hard. Would echo the above and say thru biodiesel or ethanol is the best bet to get to energy. I've personally seen it done 2-3 times. And i'm talking ABCD to Shell/BP/Chevron/Exxon etc. This is with 5-10 years experience.
  2. Agri is tough right now. The industry is struggling but I don't see it going anywhere. Read thru ADM's last q release to get an idea of the current industry. There is still money to be made and I personally really like the industry. There are lots of opportunities for the right person but you have to be willing to put in the work.
  3. LDC is very highly regarded in the ag space. Among the ABCD i'd personally have Cargill/LDC as the two top shops for training traders. In my experience they hire very smart people and have great training programs which produce good traders. Salary & bonus is slightly higher than the rest of the street from what i've heard but pretty much in line. Starting comp won't blow your socks off, but you aren't in banking/PE. You're in physical trading. If you perform and are a good trader there are opportunities to make very good money.

It’s a mixture. The biggest aspect of ag’s being in a downturn is cyclical. We’re just stuck in a period of pretty constant over supply. There've been a ton of extremely good crops for almost 5 years now. That combined with the trade war has really knocked the industry into a down cycle. That’ll change over the next few years as supply shrinks either as a result of farmers going bankrupt or some bad harvests.

As important as tech is, it still isn’t hurting physical margins as bad as people will tell you it is. It is however eliminating a lot of the edge physical traders used to have in the futures market though.
