Mckinsey interview on hold-- has anyone had this?

Hi,

So, I recently have been going through the McKinsey New Ventures interview process for an analyst role as an experienced hire. After R2 interviews, I received a call from the recruiter to give me interview feedback. Overall, they said that I had done okay, (not amazing but well). As next steps, they said that they wanted to put me on hold for the role I had applied for and wanted to interview some other candidates as well and said they would revisit in 2 or 3 weeks. The recruiter also said the interviewers thought that I would possibly would be more suited for another role which is not yet being recruited for. Also they said to let them know if I had interest in any other role as well. Has anyone had this happen? I have never been "put on hold" what is the chance of moving on to the next round? I haven't heard of McKinsey doing this before

New Ventures is a pretty new part of McKinsey, and somewhat separate - they likely have a completely different recruiting team, and therefore recruiting process. They definitely recruit more on a rolling basis, compared to the traditional practices of McKinsey, which are overall very structured.

Doubt very many people on this forum know much about New Ventures recruiting. Sounds like you're going to have to wait it out and hope for the best. If anything, I would be proactive with the recruiter about the other role (assuming its desirable for you), while being clear that you still want to be considered for the current one.
