Greetings my fellow monkeys,
I currently live in California and I will be coming to New York City this fall as a university student. I am really into Finance, in fact, obsessed.
My goal is to break into Private Equity eventually, but I have a number of steps to accomplish preceding my spotlight, such as investment banking. Since I will be a freshman in the city, I want to expose myself to finance as early as possible.
I want to Job Shadow or be an assistant for an Investment banking analyst or associate. This means, I will work for free. I'm really nifty at Excel as well. I just want to be in the finance atmosphere as much as possible. I can "work" Mondays & Thursdays from 8:30 am to 12 pm.
This may seem strange, or unheard of, but I am a trailblazer and willing to fight for my passions. I will do anything for the experience.
Please respond if you work at (I am looking at this firm in particular because transportation to here is easy for a student like me), especially, but not limited to, if you work in Investment Banking.
Help is much appreciated. Thank you.
Are you trolling? This is funny
I'm serious. Don't be quick to judge, I'm a novice to the industry and just trying to learn as much as I can. Did not mean to come across as "funny".
I think they're serious.. interesting regardless. Why not go through your first year and try to obtain a paid internship. What would you put on your resume? Coffee bitch?
That is what I plan to do eventually, but I'm just trying to somehow get a head start. And to me, if that means making coffee for the senior execs in return to witness a meeting and learn more about the system, I'm in! But I guess you all do have a point here.
IB deals with private, material information....interns, analysts etc are privy to information that would move markets and are required to maintain confidentiality etc. Investment banking departments, for want of a better word, are secure areas and can only be accessed by authorized personnel for the same reasons.
Why on earth would they let you in to make coffee etc when that's all done already, in exchange for exposing you to the work environment?
Nice, must be heading to BMCC in the Fall. Really got the college's motto down!!!
FYI, Goldman would never do something like this but good luck nonetheless!
BMCC? Are you being sarcastic about the motto.....? And no I don't go there.
Thanks, willing to give it a shot, I appreciate any support.
Serious or not, zero chance of this happening.
So many haters on here. :(
OP, you are in luck, I am not just a mere Analyst, but a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs in the TMT group.
This whole time I have been feigning undergraduate student status on Wall Street Oasis just waiting to come across an individual with such a differentiating zeal for finance like yourself; I admire trailblazing people who possess unique talents for Microsoft Excel. I would be honored to take you on as the fervent future financier you are.
As you probably already know, we hold all our employees to the highest standards at Goldman, no less is expected from our unofficial interns. So before I can grant you an assistant position, you must first go to the McGraw Hill Education website and finish a number of special Goldman Sachs TMT Accounting Assessments... Only after you have completed all ten "Chapters" worth of official Assessments will you be considered for employment.
Hello redrocksky,
I am immensely pleased to hear from you & I appreciate your guidance and offer, Thank you! I am very much familiar with Goldman's standards and I feel I can fit in undoubtedly. I can assure you that you will not be let down.
I will get started on those assessments immediately; is there any deadline?
Once again, thank you very much!
Can you work on your writing skills first? These posts of yours are painful to read.
Unfortunately, the deadline may have actually passed. I will check with Lloyd and get back to you.
There's no such thing as shadowing, especially at GS, unless you are a hot chick.
Give the man a job!
