PE marketing strategies w/in portcos?

when a fund takes a control stake in a company, how is the issue of marketing usually addressed as an operational improvement issue? if you're wondering why most ads are awful it's because the good ideas get rock-tumbled to death in the gauntlet of approvals between agency + client. lots of money left on the table due to the needless conservatism w/in most marketing depts.

I realize marketing isn't the first concern in evaluating a deal but as a value-added tool it can do a lot if you do it right. would love to hear how the issue generally gets addressed?

I ask b/c in the nature of the investments PE makes (control) there's an opportunity to bypass a lot of traditional inefficiencies and make that resource work to its maximum advantage. wondering if larger pe companies have in-house marketing as part of an operational team, or if there are marketing firms that specifically cater to the PE business?
