This entirely depends on the person and their priorities. Making high 6 to 7 figures is enough to own an Aston so long as it is a priority of yours and you don't mind the endless amount of money that premium cars like that suck out of you.

In TX I tend to see senior guys with Teslas (3 or S), Range Rovers, and Porsches (911 or Taycan, wife usually has the Cayenne). VPs and Principals are usually more like your classic starter/mid-tier luxury options like BMW (M3, sometimes 5-series), Mercedes, Audi, etc.

Not a ton of flashy supercars from the fund world. That culture is big here but tends to be more entrepreneurs and real estate guys. Not much of a car guy myself, I just need enough to have remote start and cooled seats for those summer afternoons…

Leasing vp at a GP (repe) drove a Mercedes amg g wagon with a juicy red interior

he gets a portion of the leasing commission fees we charge our lps

You definitely can drive an Aston when you make that much, as others have mentioned it is going to depend on what you value/prioritize. If your office doesn’t have any car people then you won’t see anything crazy (probably some S class Mercedes type stuff). Even some very wealthy (billions) people I know drive around $30-40k cars while others have a fleet of cars. I worked with some car people (a couple Ferraris, mclarens, etc type cars). I went with the 911 turbo. No one really cares unless you come in dressed in full Ferrari F1 gear after your purchase.

As a huge car guy I'm actually planning on pulling the trigger on an R8 either next year or the year after (considered the vantage, amg gt, and a pre-owned F430 but R8 is practically the easiest to own in a current situation where I don't have a fleet of cars to access lol). As someone with a long-term girlfriend who also makes some serious coin and enough cash flowing investments in place, I figure I want to have fun and get something I'm passionate about. Yes I can get totally flamed for that decision with regards to how much money it burns but I honestly don't care. I love cars and while we don't have kids or anything like that, why not enjoy. After all, you could die out of the blue one day and then what - do you want to go down not having what you truly love?

To your point I am in the high six figure range and still rent my apt in nyc but own other properties across the country which I rent out in addition to co-investing in some VC deals along with my firm.

I'd say from this list you have to get rid of the F430. By now you're looking at a 3 gen old flagship Ferrari with a dog shit single clutch gearbox. Maintenance on the Ferrari will also cost more than the others. If you are a purest you gotta get that Vantage with the manual gearbox my guy!

I'm well aware of the generation and the gearbox but I wouldn't call it dogshit. Yeah it's not the dual clutch but it's honestly super fun driving it given how aggressive each shift ends up being. I'd argue it's even more purist than the aston forsure given the aston errs on the side of being more refined and calm. Have driven both and the ferrari was much more raw and felt like I had to put in more work to drive it.

100% agree with your mentality as I’m a huge car guy myself. Just be aware of maintenance costs. Buddy of mine hade a gated v10 R8 and he got a head gasket leak. Repair required the motor to be pulled and the bill ran him $30-$40k... Just food for thought.

"Responsable way of spending" is something you say someone that is earning $50k/year and spends $60k in a car. For someone that has been pulling ¿$400k+? for a decent amount of years and has financial knowledge, this is just another purchase more.

What a little virtue signalling beta nerd... who are you, Elizabeth Warren's son? LOL

Responsible way of spending... give me a break

You guys have an idea on how much these sick cars cost?Talking monthly all-in, 300-500k Ferrari is how much? More than a similarly priced house that's $3-5k?Mercedes g wagon, are these like 2k a month or like $4K because of higher insurance etc?I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on a cheap "fun" car like a gt stang or charger etc that are like $600 a month I think? Then when I settle down a bit or can really be comfortable and justify a fat purchase I’ll pull the trigger but until then am fine with cruising with something ‘nice’ but not splashy
