Phone conversation with PMs
After some aggressive networking, I was able to secure phone calls with 2 PMs. I have a rough idea of what I want to ask them, but I just wanted to know if WSO could help? Are there any questions I could ask, or characteristics of myself that I could demonstrate, which would help me stand out? What types of things would you want to hear from an aspiring researcher?
Try to demonstrate an interest in learning about the markets and a passion for investing but make sure you don't come off as a know-it-all. Don't be afraid to ask about something you don't understand. Be prepared to ask good questions (have a list in front of you)
What do they look for in an analyst? In terms of activities that they would need you perform, documents to prepare, types of data gathering,
Daily routine for the position you are applying for and their routines [day to day responsibilities/processes (during earnings and otherwise), the people they interact with:(i) to gather info apart (from the management of firms and the Sell-Side) - interaction with the database guys, (ii) to conduct trades they decide, any other sources of info, dealing with clients the general approach, reaching out to clients, etc] - make a list of questions based on this https://thealphabanker.com/2013/09/24/real-life-of-an-equity-analyst-bu… http://www.lifeonthebuyside.com/life-on-the-sell-side-equity-research/ http://www.lifeonthebuyside.com/buy-side-analyst-good-bad-day/ http://www.analystforum.com/forums/cfa-forums/cfa-general-discussion/91… http://www.analystforum.com/forums/careers/91325707 http://equity-research.com/ http://www.lifeonthebuyside.com/financial-modeling/
How careers progress in terms of responsibilities, what tasks are you given initially, when do you get sector coverage opportunities, what is the route or path of sectors given for coverage, documents/reports prepared for internal and external purposes, means of communication how much is documented/how much is verbal, time for preparing documents (models/reports), road shows,

Initial call with PM at a Credit Fund (Originally Posted: 04/24/2015)
Got tapped for a 20-30 minute introductory call for a position (I assume associate or analyst,. Bloomberg didn't say). I've looked at the prospectus and have been trying to dig deeper into the person I'm speaking with. Apparently he's in middle market capital. I have no idea if he is HY, Credit opportunities, etc.
Realize we're going to have to do some broad strokes, but does anyone have any tips on prepping for the call? I know I should cover what makes a solid credit investment, but what else should I be preparing for.
Thanks in advance.
