Private Fixed Income Analyst

Private Fixed Income Analyst

I have an informational meeting/network event (i.e., lunch or coffee) with a PM that manages private placements. I am hoping to get an interview for a few openings they have. I know that I am weak in the credit area. Is there a good way to bone up on this and show I have what it takes? I have the Handbook of Fixed Income Securities by Fabozzi, and am focusing on the Credit Analysis & Credit Risk Modeling and Bond portfolio management chapters. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

My background: just passed L3, have structured finance background in trust/admin side, hoping to break into buy side. This position is not at a HF, or AM arm of a BB. It is a smaller shop.

Bump.

Maybe I should put together a credit analysis on a private placement for my meeting? Would this be similar to a stock pitch but focusing more on the downside (i.e., default) and credit upgrade/downgrade?

Both those books would help but read as many credit rating agency reports that you can find as a lot of the deals are rated (depending on the size). You will get a better feel for the transaction structures that increase the attractivenss of a deal and the leverage metrics that are important. Get a free account on DBRS, it has alot of info in its free reports.

I will check out DBRS. Thanks for the suggestions.
