required to network during internship?

I find it awkward that my classmates are networking with everyone from the group. Is this required? I heard from some that this is not needed and can come across as irritating so I only mainly speak only with my deal team. However, others recommend networking with extensively. How does the final evaluation look like? will it just be the deal team + staffer who will be discussing whether an analyst will get a return offer? Who will weigh in to the decision making process?

just a fellow intern but my 2c is that networking is really important, esp this summer when there's no in-office interaction. I'm pretty introverted but trying to push myself to talk to as many people as possible since my analysts basically said I should try to get in front of everyone in the group. It feels awkward sometimes but also a good learning thing to get the interaction plus if everyone in your group is doing it and you aren't, you won't be remembered as much as everyone else, which could lead to a poor evaluation. my understanding of evaluation is everyone in the group talks about interns' performance wrt work quality and level of communication, the latter of which wouldn't be great if you're not networking

Current SA at a BB. It would help to network with senior bankers. At least in my group, its encouraged to network with even the group heads and they do not find it annoying at all. I've heard analysts have most of the input considering you work closest with them, however, if you have a couple of MDs pulling for you then that makes up for any mistakes you might have made in the internship. Also, if you're in a group that has less FT spots to offer, then networking will be essential
