Rising sophomore resume

Hi, rising sophomore here looking for opportunities in consulting/IBD/etc. Would like to get comments for this resume before potentially sending it out for alums during networking. Consulting work experience is legit as I have very strong contacts there. I can always go back but I prefer to have a taste of working in the States first. Btw I'm also trying to graduate early since fees are getting rather expensive, hence the '11 grad date.

I am not going to comment on your format etc. but overall your resume looks strong. I would say it is stronger for consulting than IBD. Working in IBD myself I would be interested in knowing if you have had any accounting or finance experience and would probably ask you about this during your interview.

Good luck

Sorry, it's only for the sake of privacy. It's just some random asian country's language and I happen to speak it. Plus its not one of the major spoken languages so I doubt it'll give me any leg up whatsoever in recruiting for US office so it's just there for the sake of being there.

pk:

thanks! is the format fine though?

Lucaskhan:

Of course. In fact, you just explained the whole point of me putting expected '11 grad date there. However, the truth remains that I've only just finished my freshman year. Just to be clear with the WSO audience in any case.

[edit]

Realized I forgot to ask this to everyone, but would the resume be strong enough to at least secure an interview at MBB or BB IBDs?

The reasons for you not to get an interview is: You are not from a target and lack of accounting/finance experience(from looking at your resume). Here is what I would do

  • List acc/fin courses if you have taken any.
  • Sign up for a IB training program (WSO + others offers this)

Hmm.. would a certain no.1 US state school be considered target? Hint: it's at the west. Not a top target like H/P/W of course, but I'm guessing it's between target/semitarget. I will be taking a fin acct class (not sure about finance, my schedule's pretty packed as of now) and also applying to the business program (which is definitely targetted)

I would say for Ibanking, your resume needs work, as you probably know yourself. I've come to believe that it's easier to get a consulting position FT with Ibanking summer experience than the other way round. For the simple reason that you gain transferrable skills in finance, which can be applied to consulting, but as a consulting trainee, you loose out on critical financial knowledge. I'm interning at a PE fund and it is basically due diligence and writing pre clearance notes to the investors- on live deals. Financial modeling in the same job is a plus over a consult type position.

Btw, what brand name level for the consulting firm? MBB or Del/ Accenture/ Mercer. Strong experience for consulting. I also like the format very much.

Point taken, will probably list my finance/acct coursework for the i-banking version. For now, I can probably push it even further by bankifying my bullet point descriptions but other than that I can't really do much about my lack of finance experience. Later on, the best thing I can probably do to beef it up is by taking up part-time PWM/ER/AM/etc. internship sometime during the fall. In any case, I'm also currently on 2nd round interviews for an Asian PE firm so I'm gonna see how that will turn out as well

It's Del/Acn/Mercer by the way. Even with strong connections/networking, MBB seem somewhat out of reach for a freshman due to the fact that they appear to be more meritocratic than everyone else (at least that's the impression that I got). But oh well, in life you gotta make do with the cards you're dealt.
