Should I put languages on my resume that I'm not fluent in
Hey all,
I have two languages which I'm currently learning. If you were to drop me in that certain country I would be able to survive. However, I'm not fluent in either of them and utilizing them in a professional setting is out of the question at the moment.
I'm doubting whether I should put these on my resume. I'm already fluent in 3 languages so I'm not sure if it's necessary to add the other two languages. I'm afraid I might give the impression of appearing like a charlatan who just adds languages to his resume because he has solved one duolingo exercise.
What are your thoughts?
Depends on the languages but I'd say put all of them and the level you speak them at, assuming it's at least intermediate and you'd be comfortable speaking a few sentences in an interview. Shows a willingness to learn IMO, just be prepared for the occasional person to try and call you on it.
Ex - French (Fluent), Italian (Fluent), Arabic (Intermediate), German (Intermediate)
Only put languages that you are fluent in. I know someone who had Spanish on their resume and the interviewer turned out to be Spanish and asked if the interview could be in Spanish became a very awkward situation.
I strongly disagree. Put any languages from fluent to basic. The fluent one means you can meet a client in it, business proficient means you can contribute to meetings with clients, conversational means you may be able to read sites, documents or papers in that language and basic means you're willing to learn like eloquence said above.
It's not really necessary if you know that many languages unless there's some kind of structural advantage (e.g. you're covering Latin American clients and you know some Spanish). But if you qualify it with (Basic Conversational Fluency in xyz) it should be ok.

Sed fugiat sunt sunt repellat. At sapiente quia quae quia ab qui.
