Sophomore at a non target school with a 3.9, what should I do this summer?
I am currently a sophomore at a non target school and until now I haven't seriously thought about my career at all until now. I have a 3.939 cumulative GPA, doing a strong leadership position at my school, and probably will be econ major. I'm realizing that a lot of the internships that look appealing to me are past the application deadline at this point so I can't apply for them, and I'm thinking that now it would just be best to just start networking a lot and preparing for summer 2021 internships (which would be after my junior year). but at the same time i don't want to be just sitting around on my computer not doing anything which i could put on my resume. So does anyone have any ideas of what I could do? would be much appreciated. I've started emailing my professors for research opportunities and stuff like that too
lucky for you, you still have a significant amount of time to build your story for entering into the banking world, if you so choose. if i can give you any advice, don't just sit around and network/prepare for next summer. use this time to build your resume and learn about the industry, whether it be doing research with a professor or getting a full blown IB internship. I know many PE firms hire sophomore summer analysts, and many other reputable places will be recruiting all the way until the beginning of the summer. see if you can reach out to any of your school alumni who are in roles that seem interesting to you and ask them about caareer advice and how they landed the role they are in now. maybe they can even help set you up with a summer gig. the opportunities are really endless and you should be doing everything you can go gain real world experience this summer- worst thing to get out of it is deciding finance isn't for you and you major in something else.
Appreciate the advice, I'll make sure to do that!!
If you're interested in adding a sales internship to your resume let me know. I'm also a sophomore at a non-target (fin major w/ econ minor). I worked for an MCA brokerage last summer because I wanted to get something on my resume and they're looking to hire for the summer. Some kids who weren't from nyc even got their apartment rent covered by the company. It's not the most exciting work, but you'll get experience and an opportunity to spend a summer in nyc.
Thanks for letting me know, I'll pm you
still haven't heard from you!!!
hey, mind if I PM?
not at all!
