Suntrust Robinson Humphrey "Portfolio Management"

Hello Monkeys,

Curious if anyone knows much about the Portfolio MGMT group of STRH here in Dallas. Unlike most Portfolio MGMT's, the group mainly focuses on underwriting and managing the debt their CB's and IB's commit to their clients. That being said, anyone have any other info on them? Debating taking a summer analyst offer from them...

Thanks!

Can't give much insight on the Dallas office. That being said STRH is leading the field in culture. I'm familiar with PM at HQ in Atlanta and they're great. In the PM group, you get a great deal of exposure from the starting block, since you're considering taking an intern offer it's good to know that they offer FT positions to about 85% of the SA class. Just about all of the analysts that I know of say they have a very healthy work-life balance, to the point that they're making it to every home football game in Death Valley. As I said culture is their selling point, the MDs are very supportive and in their words "the door is always open". What I've been told is you get so much hands-on experience your first two years compared to other divisions that it's easy to lateral out of the PM group if you're looking to move. I want to say that's a rarity, but not sure. Deal flow in PM is greater than other divisions because STRH's business model is to build a relationship with clients through lending and then cash-in on fee-based transactions when the need arises. Exit Ops haven't been a strong point in the past, but apparently that's changing because STRH has been flexing their balance sheet and the South is noticing, they're also recruiting better talent. Hope that helps, if you have any other questions please feel free to ask and I'll try to help. Congrats on the offer!

Bump for the afternoon crowd

I spent half my money on gambling, alcohol, and wild women. The other half I wasted.

I'm curious, did you have to build a FCF model for your Dallas interview?

Shouldn't portfolio managers just be running credit analysis models? Surely STRH has an analyst on the capital markets team who runs FCF models on the companies before lending?
