I strongly suggest anyone reading this to pick up a ticket. I've been to both events and they were not only each individually great, but they seem to be getting exponentially better. 100% worth every penny you pay and more.

Any word on the speakers / topics? I may actually be able to make it again this year depending on where in the world i'm working.

This conference is a bargain compared to everything else out there in NYC

AND

It's geared toward a young professional audience. The firms that the speakers represent are hands down the most valuable opportunity you will have to get a lead to get that elusive informational interview or referral. If you are at a non-target and without access to OCR this conference will really give you a solid shot because of the individuals that speak and attend for their own development.

Bottom line is, if you are looking to break in the - this conference truly gives you a ton of leads to work from. Not to mention, it's a lot of fun and you can begin building your peer network.

Grabbed my ticket today! Excited to meet everyone. Going to make a weekend out of it and meet with everyone i've been trying to meet in the city.

Thanks for doing this Pat

This event is how I gauge my year now... Can't believe I missed the EarlyMonkeyBird tickets! Time is flying.

Patrick, I think I'd like to be involved this year if possible- any way I can help?

"That dude is so haole, he don't even have any breath left."

Having flown in from the West Coast to attend last year's conference, I highly recommend the event to all junior professionals. The diversity of the attendees really enhanced my knowledge of current trends and issues in our industry. The speakers were also fantastic, as they gave real advice and insights on finding the right opportunities in finance. Really hope my schedule works out so I can attend again this year. I'm sure it will be another success.

I'd say it's a mix. We do have a speaker talking about how to prepare yourself for MBA applications and a panel called: "Transition to the Buyside (PE&HFs) - How Deal with Recruiters and Break In" ...so it's still relevant to young professionals and there will be a lot of Certified Users there and time to network. Hope you can make it!

For someone that is coming from out of state but looking to relocate to the New York area would the networking opportunities still be worthwhile? I want to transition out of Corporate Banking to Investment Management.

Hey JT - I think it really depends on you. If you're looking to relocate, I think it would be a great way to meet some people in the area and start building relationships. Will there be a ton of IM professionals there - probably not, but there will be a lot of IB, PE, traders and HF professionals, many of who have friends in IM, and definitely a few IM people as well...but the real question is will you build any real connections when you are there. That depends more on you and your willingness to meet people.

I always say that it just takes 1 person to make a difference. You don't have to make the trip to NYC, you don't have to do anything. But will coming to NYC and meeting a bunch of fun / nice people help your chances of transitioning to NYC? hell yes. As long as you are friendly and don't sit in a corner :-)

We actually had a very big group from out of state and even out of country attend the last 2 years, so you wouldn't be the only one. Either way, good luck in your journey.

Thanks Patrick, I appreciate the response. I am planning on coming and I want to register for one of the Mentor sessions too! Trying to put a good deal of effort into making it work like you said.

Assume you mean Hotel Penn?

Call Hotel Pennsylvania (location of the conference) at 800-223-8585 and mention the group "Wall Street Oasis Conference" and you should get the following rates for Friday & Saturday (if not, let me know):

  • $149/night for a king bed ($348.94 total w/ taxes) and
  • $169 ($394.96 total w/ taxes) for 2 double beds.

Tread carefully...

This should be interesting. I wonder what chicandtoughness's inbox looked like when she woke up the morning after her post.
