Thoughts on Jefferies SF Tech?
Been hearing mixed reviews on Jefferies Tech group and was curious if anyone had insight into the types of deals they are doing. They seem to be doing a ton of work right now given their latest results in M&A activity but wanted to get more insight.
Thanks!
Do they exit to UMM PE? Software PE?
Would be interested in that but more interested in the group itself as in potential deals I can expect to work on - split between capital raises and M&A deals
Based on LinkedIn and people I talked to it seems like exits to UMM are pretty doable if that’s the way you wanna go, but bc of the techy culture a lot of analysts end up going into VC, growth equity, or strat fin at startups too
bumping to avoid bug
Most of their better “M&A” deals are levfin deals that they take M&A credit for.
Also notoriously terrible culture.
What would you say are the better shops for tech M&A? Q/MS/GS are obvious leaders but what other banks do more M&A work in tech?
Have a friend that works there:
- solid junior culture (not the same with the senior level folks)
- deal flow is strong (obviously cap markets dependent but they have great momentum in the sponsor/spac advisory space)
- M&A volumes, however, as mentioned by the above post can be skewed by their lending practice
That makes sense... so expect to work on a lot of levfin type deals and exit quickly seems to be the theme
Spoke to some people in the office that said they do a good amount of SPAC mergers and work with sponsors fairly often (in addition to, of course, mainly debt and equity deals)
Do juniors usually exit to sponsors they work with?
