Vaccine requirements for IB?

I'm about to be hitting the desk in a month, and I was wondering if banks have been asking analysts to get vaccinated or, at the very least, asking about vaccination statuses. What are your experiences?

Have natural antibodies. Would rather not get one of the side effects that the FDA is hiding in their withheld phase II clinical trial results.

This is my rationale too. Kind of funny the Assoc 2 didnt even comment on your threat below. Ignoring what MSM and shit journalists are saying about "getting the vax even if you had covid previously," it seems that naturally developed B-cell memory lasts pretty long, at least 8 months (NIH: Lasting immunity found after recovery from CV19).

We should chat if you're ever on Boston lol. Would be a good discussion - i think its very sad how there are even "optics" around the whole vax thing at all.

Op-Ed: Quit Ignoring Natural COVID Immunity

May 31, 2021 - 1:58pm

Most people i find have a very odd view of this virus and the vaccine. They lean towards what the media and government says vs the data. If it becomes 100 percent confirmed if you have antibodies you are safe from the virus for years( the expected result) most on the forum I assume would ignore that and keep the same mentality of "get fucking vaccinated" because what they view as a authority figure has told them to do so. I guarantee you these are the same people who have followed rules about the mask word for word even though not they are not required and proven to not be super useful now even the WHO has said, that has been clear from the data for quite some time though.

Just an intern this summer but my VP called me to ask if I had been vaccinated.

May 29, 2021 - 2:44am

Here's the truth from a management perspective. Banks want everyone to be vaccinated asap. There has been a lot of dancing around the topic internally given it's a touchy subject but all senior leadership eventually will not tolerate people who aren't vaccinated. By law, no one can force someone to get the vaccine so for those who are anti-vax or skeptical, you're in the clear for now. But as the back to office transition eases up into a norm over the next twelve months, expect more stringent rules around vaccinations. I know at the moment a few banks are requiring attestations from employees with regards to vaccine status purely so that they can safely bring people back to the office and for summers, provide them with the best in-person experience possible.

Fuck a fake card. I just identify as vaccinated. I mean if I can identify as whatever gender I want and people have to believe me, why can't I identify as vaccinated? If people don't agree with what I think, they're being vaccinophobic.

As someone who has gone to law school, it is a common misconception that "at will" means employers can essentially make you do whatever they want (within the bounds of the law) or you're fired. There a lot of legal nuances involved that prevent employers from being able to force their will upon employees, including forcing vaccines. While there is precedent in the healthcare and education industry for such forced measures to apply, these rulings are not a blanket edict across all industries.

May 30, 2021 - 5:30pm

I'm interning at a bank this summer in NY and HR explicitly required proof of vaccination to go back to the office (nonvaccinated are allowed to work from home). Keep in mind that this is a European bank without a US retail presence so they don't have all the PR considerations/as many employees as a big American bank.

My personal opinion: your freedom to not get vaccinated ends when it affects other people's health. Supporting vaccine choice isn't freedom at all because the vaccinated people around you are being forced to be exposed to someone who can spread dangerous disease. The Supreme Court has already ruled this over 100 years ago: "real liberty for all could not exist under the operation of a principle which recognizes the right of each individual person to use his own liberty, whether in respect of his person or his property, regardless of the injury that may be done to others." (Jacobson v. Massachusetts). The fact that there are people who still refuse to get vaccinated is pathetic and there should be a lot more restrictions on the unvaccinated especially because I've heard a lot of them say that they'll only get the vaccine if they are required to get it to go places. And your employer can absolutely require you to get the vaccine under current laws as the poster above me said.

The evidence is clear that they are incredibly safe and effective. If you want to end mask wearing and restrictions, you have to get vaccinated. You can't have it both ways.

What part of the evidence is clear to you? Admittedly I'm a layman, but it seems nothing but nebulous to me. All I see is that regulatory bodies failed to predict some of the side effects until people were already dying. Even then, in Europe for example, the EMA denied the possibility of a causal link between the vaccine and the side effects until it became undeniable. Nothing about this suggests that the evidence is clear.

Yes.  I will be a muppet.

It is NOT a vaccine.  It has not been approved by the FDA.  It is genetic manipulation of your immune system for a disease with a 99.5%+ survival rate.  It has only been tested for a year  (polio took 12 years FFS).  It has NEVER been tested on anyone with an autoimmune disease.

...before you virtue signalling sheep drop monkey shit my way consider this.  In the last three years, I have recieved: 3 flu shots, two pneumonia shots, h1b, meningitis, shingles, 4 tetnis shots, MMR boostr, hep a&b and a couple others I cant recall right now.

I AM NOT ANTI VAX. I AM PRO VAX

This is not a vaccine.  This is the equivalent of Tamiflu if you catch Covid. It does not stop the disease, if only lessens symptoms.

I am against an untested EUA gene manipulation jab forceably being injected against Nuremburg rules with no ingredient listing, no long term tests for side effects and kills 5x as many people (US) as all other vaccines combined.

If that makes me a muppet?

CALL ME KERMIT THE FUCKING FROG.

I hate how people who raise even one objection or ask one question are considered anti-vax. The term means being against all vaccines, and nothing else or less restrictive than that meaning.

Are you under the impression that the flu vaccine "stops the disease" and not lessens symptoms lol? Flu vaccines are way less effective than the covid ones - both are still 100% no doubt vaccines.

Lessening symptoms is the number one case for taking a vaccine. It is literally why they exist. Research the difference between sterilizing immunity and protective immunity. You have not discovered some profound flaw here - you have just demonstrated how little you know about vaccinations.

the word conspiracies' here doesn't make sense really. Most people throughout the pandemic have taken what the media and WHO has said at its word and they have been wrong quite often about the virus and what to do to stop it. Yet any view that is not that viewpoint is considered a conspiracy. I would argue a lot of the viewpoints mainstream has had such as " if you end the lockdowns the virus will get worse" is a conspiracy. Texas and Florida in the US has proven this viewpoint was wrong and ending the lockdowns has not had a negative affect.

Good shit. I also used that Ben Franklin quote in a different comment on this thread. It's sad how people are willing to let government take away their rights just for the sake of perceived safety.

May 31, 2021 - 11:05am

Just trust Big Pharma bro. Yeah, they knowingly put carcinogens in baby powder and lied about Roundup being safe, but I'm sure they care about our safety now! Even if something does go wrong, you can always pursue legal action. Oh wait....

May 31, 2021 - 12:16pm

Have nothing against the vaccine. I just dont understand why people are so obsessed with forcing it on others. Taking away people's bodily autonomy is an invasion of basic civil liberties. Feel free to take the vaccine and I encourage people to do so, but forcing someone into getting it is plain wrong.

May 31, 2021 - 2:06pm

look up phycological studies on how people react when told to do something by a authority figure. This line of thought makes it much easier to understand how a lot of things with the Nazi's were seen as okay but a massive group of people. If a authority figure tells them it is the right thing to do a massive percentage of people will accept that and not form there own opinion of the situation based on logic.

  • Prospect in IB - Gen
May 31, 2021 - 4:30pm

Exactly. If a private business or school wants to mandate it, so be it. Government mandates would be a breach of bodily autonomy. I don't know why this is so hard to understand for people in the "my body my choice" camp.

We recently had a small unofficial company happy hour and only people vaccinated could attend. Of course, no one had to prove they were vaccinated, so people could have lied. If companies can't force people to be vaccinated, they will find ways to highly encourage employees to become vaccinated or face some level of exclusion. I could see this extending to back to office policies as well.

May 31, 2021 - 2:13pm

I already got the vaccine but personally I'd enjoy being excluded from company socials and rather just hang out with friends in a non-professional setting.

I'm personally of the mind that - contrary to mask wearing where if you didn't wear one and have COVID, there's a non immaterial chance you could get me sick since we both don't have the vaccine - if I have the vaccine and you don't, hey, your funeral. It's really beyond me why anyone wouldn't get it (besides early pregnancy or other situation where the bad fever could do outsized damage) and I honestly think a lot of it is "Liberals say to get it, FUCK THEM."

So - yea man, if you want to bare back it while the entire village spits in your mouth at Pheobe's, sure, run it. I don't give a fuck any more - enjoy your medical bills and the massive embarrassment of admitting you got COVID in June 2021.

Imagine thinking that COVID is a death sentence or at the very least will hospitalize you. Put down the fear mongering doom porn and look at the statistics. The vast majority of people will not be hospitalized from COVID and the mortality rate is extremely low. It's like 0.18% which means 99.82% survivability. For 15-24 year olds, it's like 99.996% survivability rate. Some young people have a higher chance of death from the flu. 15-24 year olds are like 7-8 times more likely to die from a car crash. Even for 85+ year olds, the mortality rate is somewhere like 3-5%. Most of them survive bro. It's not a death sentence. 95% of people who died from COVID had on average 4.0 pre-existing conditions. The biggest issue we have in this country is that's there a bunch of fat people.

70% of US adults are either overweight or obese. Is it surprising at all that 78% of those hospitalized for COVID were either overweight or obese? Maybe we could have saved more lives had we told people to put the god damn fork down and go run and workout in a gym to lose weight. Wait but we decided to close all gyms down right? I guess we'd rather let people die than hurt their feelings. Look, if you got the vaccine, that's great. I think anyone who wants it should take it. Please do not have that sanctimonious attitude that you're holier than thou though. You're not some upstanding citizen just because you decided to inject some foreign substance inside you.

you have to multiply percents by 100 bro.

33,300,000 cases / 591,000 deaths * 100 = 1.78% fatality rate or a 98.2% survival rate.

that fatality rate, over the entire US population (of course this concludes that the entire country gets Covid) is a death toll of 5,874,000 or roughly the entire state of wisconsin.

"fear mongering doom porn" is actually just saving lives

I don't give a fuck about all that - I know that I've had 3 analysts get laid up for a week with COVID over the past year pre-vaccine. There's literally no reason to get it now, so if you are sick with COVID at this point, it's basically the same as getting pink eye - I know you did some stupid ass shit to get it and I now think you are a massive clown.

Jun 20, 2021 - 11:26pm

0.18% is the proportion of the US population who has already died of covid

600k/330m= 0.18%

It is not the infection fatality rate as you seem to think it is here

I am not anti-vaxxer, idgaf if you get the vaccine or not, I am not getting it because I don't trust the media pushing so hard to get this vaccine. Not to mention our health industry has been corrupted ever since The Carnegies took over by funding almost every health organization that exists in America. At the end, we are a liability to the health industry in America. Downvote me all you want so you can fit in with society, and all this bs about saving life's with the vaccine. You can still transmit covid from 2 shots, I will gladly wear my mask if it means I don't have to take the shot.

Jun 1, 2021 - 2:44pm

Y'all realize if there's something killer in the vaccine and half the country dies or gets mutated to fuck, its gonna be the anti-vaxxers cleaning up the mess and burying 200mm people.

Fuck. That. Shit. I'm going out with the people while the times are still good. Ain't tryna scoop dead bodies off the sidewalk while the entire world economy falls apart.

I'm just glad I live in Texas and Greg Abbott has already defeated COVID-19 here. But legit, why the hell are vaccinated people scared of a non-vaccinated person who when the vaccine PROTECTS you from the disease!? What reason is there to be fearful?! Why is being vaccinated suddenly NOT GOOD ENOUGH to be protected from the disease?? Is it just me or have people lost the ability to think rationally for themselves without cable news telling them what to think...

Jun 4, 2021 - 3:27am

Vacc'd folks can be in the office without a mask. Non-vacc'd people can't legally be excluded from being in the office but have to adhere to social distancing/mask rules.

It has now become an OSHA issue of whether having those who aren't vaccinated in the office potentially pose a threat to the others who haven't been vaccinated

Headed to a BB in NYC and do not plan on getting the vaccine. Hoping there are some others in group that feel the same way. Would be disappointing not to be able to meet people and socialize due to not having the vaccine. Interesting how the same people who get on their soapbox about mental health also think it's rational to micromanage the lives of others. No wonder depression and anxiety are at unprecedented levels.
