What did you do to celebrate your job offer?
I was recently offered a SA position at one of my top choices after a long and arduous journey.
bI was wondering what you fellow monkeys have done to celebrate your SA or FT offer. Whether it be a fun night out with the boys or buying yourself something nice - curious to hear your stories.
I'm getting drunk and will probably buy a new set of irons for golf after using my dads old clubs for the last 5 years...
Congratulations on the offer! Honestly just celebrated with friends and by not having to think for once about the next networking call, interview, application etc. had been at the grind for 6-7 months so felt really nice to be done.
Had the same thing
Also got an offer at a top shop under a great MD. But gonna be honest, I bought myself a bag of beef jerky. Didn't eat it till like a week later and it wasn't even that great tbh, should've bought Jack Link's beef nugs instead.
Oh I also went to dinner with a buddy and got drinks afterwards.. I live in a shitty town currently so not much to do. Can't wait to get back to the city.
beef jerky is expensive man...good way to treat yourself
Yea that was my thought... too bad that batch was shitty :/
I got myself a bottle of champagne after each internship offer I accepted
Nice, what kind?
First one - Magnum of Moet
Second one - Normal Moet
Third one - Dom Perignon
Fourth one - Piper Heidsieck Rare
Looking back, not sure why I got the Moet, could have bought much nicer champagne instead
1 - got super drunk
2 - candy flipped (drop acid then a few hours later pop a pill)
Ah, a man of culture I see
that's me brother
Thank god people like you exist on the street.
Man I wish more people like you were in my group
That is a proper celebration!
a sophisticated man
Lol
Fucking legend
First of all, congratulations.
On this occasion, I prefer to celebrate my success with my loved ones over buying something only for myself.
Bought a new watch after getting my SA offer last year
What watch did you get?
Seiko sary103
When I got my offer to lateral from a shitty no-name boutique to an EB, I got a bottle of champagne, went to a hibatchi restaurant, and went skiing in the bathroom.
I'm a believer in celebrating the big wins. A small tradition I've done for the past few years after every big life move (New house, new job, etc) is:
1) Go to your favourite restaurant with a few friends, you pick up tab
2) Buy yourself something you've been eyeing up (minimum $200)
3) Buy something for someone else (minimum $200)
4) Anyone that helped you achieve what you did gets a bottle of their favourite
Most recently I ended up going down to Miami and rented a yacht with some friends (chill it was the minimum length to qualify as a yacht, I'm not that rich). Awesome experience. The cool thing is that these celebrations can eventually catch on in your friend group.
Congrats, you've just created a crew that celebrates each other's successes.
That's an awesome way to celebrate. What is your new role?
I do data analytics for a living so roles are a bit all over the place. I was celebrating doubling my annual income.
Bought myself AirPods when I got my SA offer last year. Totally recommend them
Buying my sister AirPods Pro (have been a user myself for a couple of years) as a gift from the money I'll earn this summer as an SA. Definitely second this.
the microphone breaks easily, and I’m not the only one to experience this
Honestly idk if you bought the normal ones or the pro, but after having had the last generation normal ones all I can say is I profoundly regret the purchase. The microphone sounds like shit, they will randomly connect to just one ear and worst part is they already changed one earpiece to no avail.
I genuinely want to get the pro ones but I am afraid I may end up with the sane meh product that happens to be overpriced because Apple
I have the AirPod Pro now and had the normal AirPods before and I can confidently say that the old ones sucked! I hated them before and I hate them now. THey would fall out of my ear and I hated the fact that there was no buds on it. I then upgraded to the AirPods Pro and it feels remarkably different now. I went through recruiting with those AirPod Pros and never had a problem.
OP here - I have the airpods pro. I haven't had many issues yet but I'd always recommend getting the apple care just to be on the safe side. I only bought them around 6 months ago so I haven't had them long enough to face significant issues.
Airpods are absolute trash imo. Got me a pair of Sony XM4s and haven't used my AirP Pros since
Got high as shit and ate the McDonald's chicken sandwich. Subsequently threw up. Then went on spring break and celebrated with everyone.
fingerbanging fatties
Had my gf peg me so that I could prepare for the weekly fisting from my bank.
I logged onto LinkedIn and thanked a bunch of people by posting that I couldn't have done it without their guidance and mentorship, and also how much I couldn't wait to take on the next challenge of my life.
"I am beyond elated to announce that..."
#overjoyed
After a super day, got my offer in the airport and upgraded to first class for free drinks. Proceeded to blackout on a 2-hour flight home and lost my wallet on the plane. Fun times
hahaha love it. I also did this after a superday that went extremely well (I thought I was guaranteed the offer), got blasted in the city with friends and ended up blacking out after drinking a few pre-flight termies at the airport and fell asleep waiting for my flight. Had to buy the next flight out on my own dime. Heard back the next day I didn't get it.
Absolute legend
Haha, have almost the same exact story. Interview went well. Got hammered with my friends in the city. Stumbled through the airport and somehow made it passed TSA and then passed out on the 2hr flight. Got the job!
bought a speedy :)
Which one? Classic model or another one?
The classic moonwatch
I never celebrated because I was always paranoid something would go wrong... didn’t want to jynx it I guess. Well, I’m here
Bought a bottle of Lagavulin 16 to celebrate the day of and later had an awesome steak dinner with my best friend where we sprayed champagne and celebrated.
Went outside after officially quitting my previous role with joy and ran to the Ess A Bagel nearby and treated myself to the best damn lox bagel I could buy that I was previously too cheap (and poor) to pay for. It tasted amazing and I felt great.
Nothing because i wasn’t tool enough to celebrate an internship offer.
Sounds like you could have used a celebration or two in your life... Ease up a little
I celebrate the days that define me like birthdays, holidays, graduation, etc. Didn’t really feel the need to celebrate becoming an intern. I slept good for a week though and felt relieved that I didn’t have to talk to network with awkward as hell analysts anymore. It’s shocking looking back now to realize how bad people are at making conversation.
blow and dabs
After getting my internship, I went to bed and got the first stress free, good night sleep that I had in months. After getting my lateral offer, I had the most satisfying mouse click when I sent my farewell email and had a blast telling other people that my projects were their problem now. I got pretty fucked up after both events, but I get fucked up pretty often so it was more of a "lets get drunk and this also happened" than a "lets get drunk because this happened."
i felt really good for a few hours then i started wishing i had an offer at a more well known/10B+ fund and my happiness/stress levels mean reverted
A good bottle of Macallan 18 and a couple of Cohibas. Proceeded to black out, ending up in a hotel room with a lady and 3 for 100.
Took a day off, did some drugs, got drunk. Standard stuff.

Respect. Did the same. Prob one of the best feelings in my life honestly.
I went out to dinner with my folks and girlfriend. No high end dinner or anything crazy. It was just nice to spend time with them in a casual setting. Id highly recommend celebrating with the people you care about most (this can obviously be challenging during COVID).
Started plotting my next move.
Bought a couple nice bottles of whiskey to enjoy with my dad and brother
Bought all my college roommates a ton of liquor and uber eats. Proceeded to get fat and fucked up.
My girlfriend got an MBB offer the same day - fucked her brains out, then we went to the nicest restaurant in our city. One of the best days of my life.
Based and lovepilled, brother
Crank my Soulja Boy
FT offer as an Analyst. Got myself a magnum of cliquot, bought a bottle of Macallan 18 (brought it to him the day of offer) for the MD who ran the PE firm where I interned at (and connected me with the group head who ultimately hired me).
One way ticket to Italy, travelled with a couple of friends for a while
Birdhouses for my former bosses epic estate. Put em up without her even knowing.
im the eldest of migrants.
when they first moved out to the West and had me, they suffered a lot of financial worries and would visit this cheap restaurant which they really enjoyed as a day out.
visited the same restaurant the day after the offer goal from a good bank and just sat there, kept saying to myself no more financial worries.
So happy to hear this man went through something similar with my family too. Hope it all works out for you
Ozil the GOAT playmaker btw arsenal disrespected this man too much now God punishing us w Travis Scott up front
Macallan 18 and a 'gar with the boys (you buy the booze and the cigars).
Got my offer while traveling in Tokyo. Interviewed for a NYC position, so their noon was my midnight. Took the call from the club bathroom and proceeded to black out
I'm currently in a low-paying (nonprofit/government) job. Recently got into my #1 target MBA program and celebrated by buying myself my first nice watch. Just a Hamilton Jazzmaster Auto, nothing outrageous, but I've been into watches for a while and only owned some cheap Seikos and Timexes, so it felt like a milestone. Planning to continue this when I accept internship/full-time offers in the future and then for promotions after that, moving up the ladder a little each time brand-wise.
Also, love some of the other responses re: Creating a culture of celebrating successes with friends. During COVID, my roommates and I have gotten a lot closer by getting beer and pizza for the house everytime somebody has a big life win - the person whose success we are celebrating always buys. It may not be renting a yacht or a trip to Tulum, but it's awesome reinforcement to root for each other in a time when it's easy to disconnect and disengage from those important personal relationships.
MBA - recruiting is all fall with 1 week of actual interviews in January where 1st rounds are Mon/Tue, Superdays Wed-Fri, offers come out Friday, after which we have another 2-3 weeks of break. Booked a flight to Miami that thursday with a great crew and partied Friday - Tuesday and blew the entire summer signing bonus (on credit card, don't get it for a bit).
One guy came down with no offers and got a tip top offer while drunk on the beach - such an awesome trip.
Imagine getting job offers lol
This post was made by the perma-intern gang
Got myself some custom fit golf clubs
Worth every penny, my ball striking is way better now and my handicap is getting down to single digits
Do it OP
Nice!
What clubs did you go for?
The original P790s from TM - absolutely beautiful sticks - plus a Hi-Toe 56 degree and milled grind 50 degree (+ M5 driver but I don't need it, I take a 3 iron off every tee). Thinking about swapping the 50 for a 52 and 48 but no complaints so far
OP here - where did you go to get fit? I just scheduled a fitting haha
Went to a chain here in the uk called American Golf that does free fittings. Don't let yourself get ripped off by going somewhere that charges
