timex with a leather strap. no point blowing on watches until your budget is well over that.

Agreed. But, also start scouring Ebay and Craig's List for a Tag and B&M, etc. for real cheap. It happens more often than you would think.
Of course, I would just buy in scales.
See my WSO Blog | my AMA

Get a vintage watch, they usually have smaller faces. There's always plenty of interesting stuff on eBay if you know what you're doing.

How about an old WWII manual wind, maybe one from the WWW series: http://imgur.com/U5MDzyJ

Going Concern:
Ugh, another watch thread (the embodiment of almost everything I don't like about this website and this industry). Why do you need a $600 watch? Do you have a full-time job? Do you know anything about watches? Who are you trying to impress specifically?
whoa whoa whoa, what's with the aggression? It's another watch thread because there were no other watch threads related to my budget. I want a 600$ watch because I wouldn't mind the investment. And yes, I'll start my full time job this July. No, I don't know much about high end watches and there's no one I want to specifically impress. lol.

Ignore going concern, guy clearly doesn't respect that some people are interested in things that he isn't.

I've got a Boss watch that was $500 @ the bay (canada, not sure if the store is in the states). It's very nice and gets lots of compliments, so that's an option. You can't really find any of the high end names in that range (maybe a hamilton or something) so I think it's good for an entry level piece. Soon as you get your hamilton or tag or rolex you'll probably downgrade the boss to your "grubby" piece, but that's ok.
