William Blair London office
Hi all,
Just wanted to have an insight into William Blair's London office?
From what I've heard, they recently opened a second floor in their London office in the City. Deal flow (200m-1bn) is very good, resulting in very decent PE exits from their recent analysts and associates.
Competitors are the more upper MM firms Baird/Jefferies/Rothschild/Houlihan Lokey
Any other input?

More like 100-500mm if you look at their recent deals. Otherwise, from people that I've met, good culture, relatively sane hours (for IB). Strong in Healthcare, but also good dealflow in Tech and Consumer.
Don't think they're in the same league as Rothschild or Jefferies
True, Roths and Jefferies get the more high-profile mandates for PE-owned businesses.

How is William Blair in London? Would you intern there or in a MM Special Situation PE Found (with not chance to convert the internship in a FT offer)?

It's good. Deal flow is strong, good culture - met a few people from there.
Thanks!
From what I've heard it's a very decent upper MM bank in the City. They work on 200m-1bn deals and deal flow is very solid.
Competitors are Jefferies/Houlihan Lokey/Baird/Rothschild
I have a few friends who interviewed there and they told me they are very selective when hiring interns/analysts (none of them got an offer) + the interview process consists of 4 rounds
thanks ! When did they interview?
Sorry but how can you compare William Blair London with Rothschild.... Roth is an absolute legend in Europe and has a huge dealflow in MM, while William Blair / Baird are just non-existent.
Houlihan is good but focuses on different segments of the market i.e; restructuring / distressed / capital advisory
Anyways, to answer OP's question: if you want to do IBD down the line, take the IBD internship. However, keep in mind that doing a PE internship before starting though is a VERY good idea given it will significantly strenghten your profile for headhunters / PE recruitment in a few years.

How many applications and interns do they get / take over in a year?
I think they hire few interns (5-7), team is really tiny in London. about how many applications I don't really know (I am curious as well).. I know that from my basically everyone interested in IB has applied
How far did you friends come in the process? What were the questions like?
I think I am the only one they called from my University.. Simple technical and lot of competency
.
Applied late September.. did one interview with the HR and 4 interviews with people from the business.. Simple technicals like how do you valuate a company and pros and cons of every technique.. some trend of some industries, +10$ in D&A.. some deals you have worked before, why did you valuate the company in that way, etc.
Did anyone got an offer?
