REPE Headhunters?

Monkeys,

Just started out in structured IB, RE products specifically, and with PE recruiting ramping up I'd like to start reaching out/developing a list of potential REPE HHs to target.

Any good suggestions for NYC specifically?

Thanks in advance!

Last year Real Estate Alert had list they published of about three pages of headhunter firms that focus on institutional CRE. I have put the link on posts in the past, but I couldn't find with a very quick google search (spend more time.... maybe look at page 2?). Did find this link from the 2014 version, https://www8.gsb.columbia.edu/realestate/sites/realestate/files/researc…

That said, here is quick list of those who come to mind..

Ferguson Partners (they are the global leader in RE headhunter firms, awesome people, HQ is Chicago, big NYC office)

Korn Ferry (do a lot for REPE)

Rhodes Associates (does a lot in NE region)

Crown Advisors (only does CRE)

Glocap Search (very NYC focus)

Spencer Stuart

Heidrick & Struggles

Terra Search

Russell Reynolds

Specialty Consultants Inc (only does CRE, I think)

Shine Associates (does a lot for NE, based on Boston, just CRE)

Once again, really doing the Lord's work.

Generally no, at least not the standard "executive recruiter" types listed above. They generally work on assignments for roles that require 5+ years of exp, otherwise the firm's HR usually does it. There are recruiter type firms that help firms do grad/new hire recruiting, but they will just list the positions on linkedin/indeed, so really no advantage in contacting them (I think Glocap does does on the list above).

Keep in mind that the legit headhunters work for the employer who pays them, you are not their client, they rarely will try and "place" you. It's just that having your resume and interests on file helps them do their jobs. The more "senior" you get the more they will want to know you prospectively. From what I have been told by some of them, they use Linkedin heavily to screen for people, they pay for the special HR version that lets them sort/search by all sorts of areas like years of total exp, years at current job, title, firm, degree, and of course.... keywords.

So, if you really want to be on headhunters radar, make sure you have a really good/complete linkedin profile.
