Gold Man Sack can't have that avatar especially when a large percentage of people read the articles at work. All I need to have happen is my MD walk by and see golden testicles on my screen...

Honestly, the gilded testicles are so distracting...and I turn the page anytime someone walks by. Who honestly wants to see balls on the internet every day...or ever for that matter

Reality hits you hard, bro...

I voted no simply for the sake of freedom of (insert here). That being said, I think it's stupid and I didn't think of those who actually work and have people look at it.

PHWOA! I can't believe someone actually took up my suggestion. Thx WSO, if that was the intention - you brightened my day

my vote is confidential, i'm afraid

Gold painted balls. Where else would you find such a thing, but on a banking message board?

-N.

"It's about the game." - Gordon Gekko "No matter how much money you make, you'll never be rich." - Jacob "Jake" Moore "'Oh Africa Brave Africa'. It was... a laugh riot." - Patrick Bateman

We still haven't heard from the man himself on this thread.

Go ahead Mr Sack: have you anything to say in your defense?

I voted NO to the ban. Although I do think there could be one legitimate argument for banning it - only one - that which is the NSFW angle. If anyone actually votes against this thing just because it makes them feel uncomfortable (or aroused perhaps??) or who knows why else, well then we truly are in a different era (http://www.wallstreetoasis.com/blog/wall-street-vices).

Common people, get a sense of humor - it's hilarious!

I get the NSFW argument, but that can be a slippery slope, especially considering not all workplaces are equal in that regard. Personally, I’d rather err on the side of freedom than that of safety and sterility, but it’s up to the board, nay, the community, and the mods/owners. I will respect whatever decision comes down.

Still, I bet most of those who voted “yes” did so not because of the workplace issue, but simply because they find my ballsies icky to look at. I think that’s pretty soft and definitely not a good argument for castration. Remember the old “first they came for my neighbor…” story. Who will defend you when they come for you? Me and my band of wild castrati?

I stand before you today with my sack hanging in the balance. Neuter me not, brothers and sisters. Neuter me not.

Does this honestly have to be put to a vote? It's tasteless and it's going to scare away anyone who has an MD potentially looking over their shoulder. (Basically, everyone in industry who doesn't have their own office.)

On ANY other forum, the avatar would have been gone in an instant. Nobody wants their kids to see it. Nobody wants their boss or coworkers to see it. Nobody wants their wife to see it. I might have voted yes when I was a college student, but I am older and wiser now and voting "No."

Patrick- banning a tasteless avatar doesn't mean you don't support freedom of speech. It just means that you're as sensible as most managers are when it comes to some reasonable boundaries. Banning the avatar is in the best interests of the site because it lets more industry folks come on here and help people out without having to carefully move the avatar off-screen before- they hope and pray- anyone sees and asks what's going on.

I can just imagine the conversation coming...

"Hey. What website are you on?"

"Uhhh, nothing..."

"It's not a porn site, is it?"

"No, it's just a random internet forum."

"Oh wait! I've heard of that forum. It's got all the trolls on there who pretend Harvard is the only school to go to and GS is the only firm to work for- and it's got that doofus GMS on there who has the ridiculous avatar and makes irritating posts that make the front page."

"Wait! Steve- (Illini) 'Pro's reading one of Goldman's posts on WSO? Haha, you can't be serious! 'Pro, I was gonna give you an outperform on your review because of that ILL ETF project, but it looks like you're getting too much help from those brass b- (glances over shoulder at SwarthmoreSaleslady) err... you know. Hey Tom! Jack! Get over here!"

[IlliniProgrammer puts his face in his hands, resigned to know that pretty soon, EVERYBODY on the trading floor will know that he was not only on WSO- the place where trolls like 1styearbanker and PJC hang out, but reading one of GMS's posts to boot.]

(Sorry GMS- it's not that I hate your posts. It's just that I HATE your avatar.)

Dude, please tell us how you really feel. Joking aside, I did enjoy your mini-play.

I agree ...the avatar has been changed. Make sure you ask Gold Man Sack how he's recovering from surgery though... and if all the members can join me in complimenting him on his new avatar (so creative) maybe it will make him feel better. I never thought a pair of gilded balls would ever create so much controversy -- but I hear the NSFW argument loud and clear.

Can we all laugh about this now?

Thanks, Patrick
