"House of Lies"

I finally gave the Showtime show "House of Lies" a chance and I totally love it. Don Cheadle stars as a management consultant and shows high level of what consultants go through. (He actually won a Golden Globe for his role).

I was wondering what the community thought about the show.....

Hilarious show.

Especially the senior associate who is all about the "prestige" factor and HBS. Made me think of WSO

Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis - when I was dead broke man I couldn't picture this

It's hilarious. Some episodes are better than others though. There was an episode two weeks ago where they had an engagement at a dildo factory which was pretty good.

Hilarious show, even if accuracy has been sacrificed to appease the masses' (lack of) intellect. Don Cheadle is fucking hilarious and how could you say 'no' to a show with

in it!?

For those that missed it...

EDIT: Note that the video is NSFW!!!

Hilarious show. Typical Hollywood-ized take on an industry, but it's a humorous (though wildly inaccurate at points) depiction of the far-traveling, quick-thinking, gunslinging consultant who fucks and drinks his way through life. Tits galore, too.

I am permanently behind on PMs, it's not personal.

Two things...

1) House of Lies is hysterical. Don Cheadle is great. I love that Kristen Bell is back on the small screen and doing a show full time for another paid network (although Veronica Mars was pretty damned entertaining for basic cable) - and if you don't know what I'm talking about, see her guest spot on Party Down, which happened to be her last stint on TV in front of a camera and not in a role like as the "Voice of Gossip Girl". The rest of the cast is pretty well rounded too. I'm quite interested to see where this is going and have high expectations. After seeing the first episode, I am now really tempted to read House of Lies - the book that this is based off of. Yes, just to point something out, this is based off of real life with a little Hollywood flair added to it.

2) Doug Ellin, one of the producer behind Entourage, did want to do a show about the hedge fund industry. He was going to model it off of his brother Rob who runs Trinad Capital Management. It just never got off the ground with HBO.

yah look at how many types of "legal shows" there are... for christ sakes they have 9 different CSI's and Law and Orders... there has to be some more finance-themed shows coming down the pipeline

Get it!

Party Down is the shit. Awesome show. Adam Scott is so funny, and the rest of the cast is great too. I'm happy they are doing a movie.

bluedvl2012Third episode is the best by far

Yeah, holy sh*t, for anyone who saw the first and/or second episodes and tapped out, WATCH THE THIRD.

Several standard deviations better television.

They finally fcking got their sht straight with the telestration/4th wall thing, they put together a compelling depiction of what consulting firms are actually being hired to do (CEO vs. CFO), and they use the phrase "big black cock", which made me lol.

blastoisealso i wonder if a bank would ever acquire a consulting firm

Considering Roland Berger wasn't allowed to enter the US market back when they were a subsidiary of Deutsche Bank, it seems highly unlikely. As banks aren't allowed to practice consulting in the US, this story makes little sense. (unless we are talking strictly inhouse? Then again, I doubt any bank would buy a BCG-ish firm as a pure inhouse... nonsensical as well.)

BombitAnyone by any chance find this show very anti Harvard?
Nope, not at all. I think it pokes fun at prestige-driven idiots who talk about their time at Harvard solely because it defines their very existence. Anyone who went to Harvard and made the fullest use of their time there isn't going to be someone who needs to let everyone they meet know they are Harvard-educated within 30 seconds.

Just realized that there are already some forum topics on the show but it can't hurt to leave this open to discussion since there are clearly some other monkeys who like the show.

The Sour Patch Kid

You're really late to this one, dude... There have already been threads about the show since early 2012.

Like I said in my post, I didn't do a search until I posted the thread. With that being said, the show is really under rated and i'm sure there are people who would be interested in checking out the show who wouldn't have found out about it unless those old threads were bumped. PS. thanks for the monkey shit

Very very close. It's pretty much a documentary.
