The recruiter reached out about the opportunity after I applied online. The first round was with a Managing Director on the team as a one on 1 Zoom call. Questions were about my interest in PCA and Lazard, along with behaviors. The next round was with two associates on the team; questions were more technical, centered around the secondary and primary market; again, I asked about my previous experience in secondary. Finally interview with another MD and VP on the vertical I would be working on.

After networking, I applied online and was pleased to receive a first round interview. R1 was with an associate and was a mix of standard behaviorals (tell me about yourself, tell me about a time when you ___, why Lazard, etc) and technicals (I found them to be harder than BBs but easier than some other boutiques such as Evercore or Qatalyst). Interview also focused on the M&A deal process and the role that banks play in. Received a superday invite a few days after my first round for the week after. Superday was 3 interviews with VPs and MDs only. Less focused on technicals here, and more about why you think you are a good fit/candidate for Lazard. Last interview was quite conversational.
Interview Questions
Tell me about the M&A process and the role in which banks play (and how does this differ when the bank is advising a buyer vs seller)

Standard first round interview 1 on 1 with an analyst to get a feel for culture fit as well as technical skills. Technical interview consisted of typical EB level inquiries (ie DCF, merger model, LBO), superday was 3 interviews from VP to MD covering both M&A & Rx employees that inquired about knowledge in their respective verticals. Culture seemed much different than decades ago, in the most positive way possible, could tell that culture fit was most important metric in determining offer.

I submitted application via a local job-seeking platform and received invitation for an offline test ( some english multiple-choice reading questions and basic math questions written in Japanese, followed by an one-on-one interview with a 2nd-year employee (one hour). Interview questions include why finance why company, and some basic questions on the materials I submitted. The main work language is Japanese. 12 hours working hour per day is standard.

All problems were standard and basic since they were looking for interns. It is not typical for japanese firms to ask technical problem, or anything that require any knowledge on finance. Interview
As a candidate who had a phone interview with Lazard, I found the experience to be a mix of challenging behavioral and technical questions. The interview began with a brief introduction of myself and the interviewer, followed by a discussion about my background, experience, and skills.

The interviewer then asked a series of technical questions related to the job. These questions were challenging, but I felt prepared to answer them thanks to my prior research and preparation. The questions were designed to gauge my technical knowledge and analytical abilities, as well as my ability to think on my feet and solve complex problems.

After the technical questions, the interviewer asked a series of behavioral questions. These questions were focused on my past experiences and how I would react in different scenarios. The questions were designed to assess my communication skills, ability to work in a team, and my general approach to problem-solving.

Overall, I felt that the interview was well-structured and covered a good mix of technical and behavioral questions. Although it was conducted over the phone, I felt that the interviewer was engaged and interested in getting to know me as a person and as a candidate for the role.

At the end of the interview, the interviewer provided me with a chance to ask questions about the company and the role. They were open and transparent in their responses, which gave me a better understanding of the firm's culture, values, and work environment.

Overall, I found the interview to be a positive experience. Despite being over the phone, I felt that the interviewer was professional, respectful, and clearly committed to finding the best candidate for the role. I left feeling optimistic about the possibility of working at Lazard.
