Advice on investment management career
Hi, I am a newbie here. Looking forward to some honest advice on this career choice. I am going to be a MBA student in one of the S16 (school does lean towards finance), trying to break into the world of finance. Non financial background. Hold a Ph.D. degree in STEM field. Previously a sr. scientist then MBA this coming fall. I am thinking about several career switching options and want to seek some good advice on this investment management path. Don't have a CFA right now, but definitely aiming to get it during MBA if decide to go down this route. Have some level of investment knowledge. I do have a long history managing my own PA via L/S. I heard IM is pretty hard to break into for people who are previously outside of the related realm. Thought about IB as well, but I am a little introvert and networking crazily with 60 recruiting bankers sounds really daunting to me. Welcome any suggestions on this career choice from experienced people.
Finance and IM are pretyy broad. What do you actually want to do?
equity research might be a good start
