Career Advice - Transition (Firm & Role)
Hi WSO,
I am currently a 2nd year asset management - investment analyst in the Private Debt and ESGI space (focusing on EM) for an American firm based in UK. I bit of background regarding myself, I started in the financial industry via BIg4 Audit (tenor of 6 months) - transitioned into a mid-sized fund administration firm (2 years) doing alternative investments regulatory and compliance advisory before landing a investment analyst role.
The current firm is relatively small, and during my 2.5 years here, the AUM has tripled - but the management remains unprofitable and there are no compensation and career progression. Obviously, I have been looking around for other opportunities and recently a head hunter contacted me for a larger Asian asset manager with the title for Equity Sales and Trading Analyst for a USD 150 billion AUM firm. The catch is: 1) The salary would be the same as I currently have (So, I will be in the same salary bracket for 3-4 years); 2) Buy-side transition to Sell-side; 3) the UK branch for this Asian firm is relatively small and I am unsure on the career progression.
Should I stay in the current position and hope for the best? Should I make a move for a larger AM?
What should I do? What would you do?
Advice needed! Thanks.
