ETF Capital Markets Specialist - Good career opp? Thoughts/Exits
Tried searching up the forum for a similar thread but couldn’t find any… does anyone have insights into this role from a career perspective? What are some of the exit opps, if any?
As opposed to the Capital Markets team (ECM/DCM) on the sell-side, this is a buy-side role (think BlackRock, Franklin Templeton, State Street etc) where it’s mostly focused on building relationships with market makers/dealers, monitoring ETF liquidity/spreads and investor education.
I came from an institutional sales background in a BB and is currently in a AM firm doing research/portfolio management.
Based on the most helpful WSO content, an ETF Capital Markets Specialist role on the buy-side can be a solid career opportunity, especially if you're interested in ETFs and the broader asset management space. The role's focus on building relationships with market makers/dealers, monitoring ETF liquidity/spreads, and investor education positions you as a key player in the ETF ecosystem.

Exit Opportunities:
Given your background in institutional sales and current experience in research/portfolio management, this role could complement your skill set and provide a unique niche expertise. If you're passionate about ETFs and enjoy the client-facing and technical aspects of the role, it could be a great fit.
