Isn't am a stable position? why do you consider the other options?
I think it’s too stable. I don’t feel the competitive and stressful pressure that you get in jobs like IB. I’m thinking of activist investing or macro funds, and maybe PE (not sure though since I have no deal experience).
The exit opps can be a strategist role at a bank or a pm role at an AM. I have seen more senior strategists go and form their own funds or go to multi managers and manage money. Some Large AMs will have the equity strategists as co-pms on strategies/funds and they could have an allocation for more macro/index level trades.
I have always though that the internal strategist, who isn’t a PM, has the role of being client facing, internal facing for non-investment folks and helping to drive strategy without making security level buy sells. They also represent the company at conferences and In the media.
