Family Offices????

I'm on the freshly minted new analyst grind at a small/mid size IB and I've been given the exciting "compile a list of family offices" assignment. Does anyone know of a decent dabatabse or website out there with a list?

Anyone else have this assignment or have thoughts on family offices in general?

EDIT: Link to WSO list

Can you get access to Preqin? Is usually pretty good, lists family offices that invest in HFs, so most of the large ones, some of the information can be a little out of date though.

There are a lot of them, obviously - Soros comes to mind lol. But a significant portion of these "offices" are simply funds which are incorporated as Family Offices for tax purposes, and are really just glorified AM accounts.

Multi-family offices aren't too dificult to find, in fact a lot of banks offer "family office" services (as Sandhurts said, they're basically glorified AM accounts). I looked the Prequin and they're mostly these. I know there are the big whales like Cascade, Soros, Vulcan, Henry Crown, Oak Hill, etc. but I guess I'm looking for a "garden variety" list.

My strategy so far has been google, google, google. Not efficient..

Hi HumPiranha88- please PM me if you're interested in a list of family offices or list of institutional investors. I used to work in the industry marketing private equity and 2 venture capital funds. I have several databases that I put together over 10 years which covers every category of investor out there. Willing to give away or some for free, but the complete list of investors I would like to sell for some money. Please PM me if anyone wants to see the list. Thx

I met someone the other day who said they worked at a 'family office of XX Private Equity firm'. It is one of the larger PE shops....what exactly does that mean?? The kid is usually full of shit - If he said he worked for the family office of KKR for example, what exactly would that mean?

I spent a few minutes in Thompson, and can't seem to turn up anything. I imagine these guys like it that way, though. Privacy and whatnot.
