Goldman Sachs Operations?
Hey, I was wondering everyone's opinions on Goldman Sachs Operations Internships. I would either be in AWM or Global Banking & Markets, which is a front office operations role. Correct me if I'm wrong, but controllers, platform solutions etc. Are all the MO/BO roles that are hard to transition out of.
I spoke to someone who did GS AWM Operations internship and now works in AWM outside of operations and they said that many people do that and it is no unordinary. Another friend of mine also leveraged a GS controllers internships into a FT MM IB offer.
What is everyones opinion on Ops and does anyone know what the salary is for Dallas / Atlanta FO Ops 1st Analyst?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, operations roles at Goldman Sachs, including AWM or Global Banking & Markets, are generally considered middle-office (MO) or back-office (BO) positions. These roles often involve systems work and operational support rather than direct client-facing or revenue-generating activities. While transitioning from operations to front-office (FO) roles like investment banking (IB) or asset management is challenging, it is not impossible. Success stories, such as leveraging a GS controllers internship into a full-time middle-market IB offer, demonstrate that it can be done with strategic networking and skill-building.
However, it's important to note that operations roles are often perceived as less prestigious compared to FO roles, and the transition may require significant effort. The experience gained in operations can still be valuable, especially if you aim to build a strong foundation in financial systems and processes.
Regarding salary, specific figures for Dallas/Atlanta FO Ops 1st Analyst roles are not explicitly mentioned in the WSO dataset. If you're looking for precise numbers, you might want to explore WSO's salary data or industry reports for more detailed insights.

Have a cousin there who told me in his 10 years there, out of the people who started their career at the firm, the true true minority is people who never lateralled from a less "prestigious" (subjective i know) or less client facing role.
