Graduate Asset Management in UK
What are my chances of breaking into bigger asset managers in the UK & making it to front office / what should I do?
Currently on a graduate program at a smallish in-house asset manager, doing the ACA (was initially on the finance scheme - thinking of CFA I), working in BO (performance) and have access to Aladdin / Bloomberg (going to get certs / have a good understanding of both). Have solid existing links with FO (have done some peripheral work with them, e.g. writing some reports) but transition is likely to be slow internally.
Any advice would be super appreciated.
Breaking into bigger asset managers in the UK and transitioning to a front-office role is definitely achievable, but it requires a strategic approach. Based on the most helpful WSO content, here’s what you should focus on:
1. Leverage Your Current Role and Network
2. Pursue Relevant Qualifications
3. Target External Opportunities
4. Develop Investment Knowledge
5. Network Strategically
6. Tailor Your Story
By combining these steps with persistence and a clear focus on your goals, you can significantly improve your chances of transitioning to a front-office role at a larger asset manager in the UK.
