Help Job offer Questions URGENT

I am currently a finance and business it major. I have always done well. I got an offer with merrill as a CA following grad. I am worried I will not be able to get through one of my classes and thus would not have a finance major. I have signed a job offer and am cleared to start following grad in december. If i cant get through the class but still graduate with a tech major, will they rescind offer? The course is in financial planning and all of my other grades are great. Do they even ask for transcripts after grad? will it be a dealbreaker if they thought id have both majors and now i would only have a finance minor?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights regarding your situation:

  1. Transcripts and Background Checks:

    • Banks typically conduct background checks and request transcripts to verify your academic credentials. If your offer was contingent on completing a finance major, this could be a concern.
  2. Impact of Not Completing the Finance Major:

    • If the job offer was based on the expectation that you would graduate with a finance major, not completing it could potentially lead to the offer being rescinded. However, this is not always the case and can depend on the specific policies of Merrill and the importance they place on the finance major versus your overall academic performance and other qualifications.
  3. Communication with the Employer:

    • It might be beneficial to proactively communicate with Merrill about your situation. Transparency can sometimes work in your favor, especially if you can demonstrate strong performance in other areas and explain the circumstances.
  4. Previous Experiences:

    • There are instances where offers have been rescinded due to discrepancies in expected qualifications (e.g., not listing a previous school on a resume or failing to meet academic requirements). However, each case is unique, and the final decision rests with the employer.
  5. Advice from WSO Threads:

    • Focus on the process and be prepared to explain your situation if it comes up. Highlight your strengths and other qualifications that make you a strong candidate for the role.

In summary, while there is a risk that the offer could be rescinded if you do not complete the finance major, it is not a certainty. Communicating with Merrill and explaining your situation, along with emphasizing your other strengths, may help mitigate this risk.

Well, it sounds like this class is not going well. But if you can, I'd try to finish it out. Your GPA may take a hit, but that happens all the time, I don't think they'll rescind you for getting a bad grade your last semester. However, not having the finance major would be worse and harder to explain in my opinion, plus in the long run you'll always be a tech major when you could have been a finance major. But if it's too late to pass the course, but you did graduate, I think you may be able to hold onto the job, but it's hard to say whether they would find this a material difference in your case.

If i dont get through the class, I would still have the same degree- a B.B.A. Although it would be a different major(only information tech) and not both that and finance. Would they verify the degree, or the majors associated with it as well?
