Is BNY Mellon a good firm?
How prestigious is BNY Mellon for an internship and how easy is it to leverage that experience to apply for full times at GPs like Ares Management, Blackstone, etc or even AM division in banks like GSAM?

Maybe not a bad place to do an internship and get some experience. Don’t think it would be too difficult to leverage into working at that banks AM arms. But the buyside/alts you mention going to be very difficult
Depends completely on the type of work you are doing. We can’t give you a real answer. Loan processor vs high yield lending at alcentra is very different…
For those confused, alcentra is a subsidiary of bny.
Yeah agreed on the it depends nature of your opportunity. They are predominantly in Boston from what I gathered back east. Trading there covers a few previous outfits Mellon and Standish management, now they are rolled up into BNY as a conglomerate from the trading/execution perspective.
There is a presence in San Francisco as well. Much of it in the quant space. Checked the jobs and it’s all quant apm or quant research role for active fixed income.
Alcentra is well regarded in NYC and small. I haven’t bothered to loo at their equities performance although I probably should know.
I have no idea on what they can do on the alts front.
TLDR. Better than nothing to intern lol.
