Morgan Stanley - Difference between AM and venture
basic question - whats the difference between Morgan Stanley's Asset Management business and their morgan stanley Smith Barney venture?
You mean investment management division? They sold the aseet management arm
One is private wealth management one is asset management
PWM = money management for wealthy people, AM = asset management like money management for institutional investors, I think
As LAWM said, they sold their asset management business. What remains are MSIM and the retail brokerage, which is PWM and Smith Barney. MSIM is a series of boutiques within MS and they're scattered around the world - they make their own investment decisions, as well as provide their institutional clients with access to hedge funds and private equity funds. The retail brokerage manages assets of the mass affluent and HNW/UHNW individuals.
