Multi-Asset Management - Junior Opportunity
Just wondering if this would be a good opportunity for someone coming from buyside risk analytics. The potential employer is a diversified financial services institute. I will be hired into Multi-Asset Management (MAM) group in their Global Asset Management (GAM) division to
"support macro, equity, fixed income & currency and alternative research."
MAM focuses on (1) asset class-level allocation/balanced funds (internal strategies); + (2) external managers (hedge funds).
Not quite sure where this opportunity could lead me. I'm more interested in developing internal strategies not external manager research/DD.
Any thoughts? Thanks
IMO this would be a great opportunity. Like you mentioned its common to see firms run their multi asset strategies as a fund of funds with internal mandates, but some mandates they will bring outside of the firm. So if they want to increase weight to IG corps, they would just pass money to the internal IG team to manage. The bulk of the work here is regarding determining the actual allocations, which is very macro heavy and can be pretty quantitative, along with a lot of the FX and derivatives work they do to get the appropriate risk profile/exposure they want. Firms typically have people who are dedicated for external manager DD, usually under the multi-asset umbrella.
