NCREIF For Asset Managment: Is it Worthwhile?

What is NCREIF's visibility and reputation within different corners of the Asset Managment? I've seen a good number of private placement pros, Funds of Funds folks, and people in the real estate departments at mega funds with the designation. Any thoughts and even the stating a lack of visibilty for the org would be helpful!
